I cruise the political forum several times a week, and it never ceases to amaze me at the level of hate and anger so many of you have for our President.

How can you be happy as a person if you are filled with so much hate?

Where will it end? Does he have to die for you guys to be happy? Do you want our country to fail so that you can dance in the streets and say "I told you so"? I sincerely worry about where this country is headed. Not because of the Obama Administration, he is just another President that will come and go. I worry because it seems that so many are pushing us farther and farther apart as Americans and taking great joy in it. Will we end up in another civil war? Is that what the Right/Left/Tea parties are striving for?

I feel very alone sometimes in my views. I just want us to succeed and be united as our name says we are. I didn't always agree with Bush and his warmongering and then the stripping of our rights to privacy scared me. However I never said or felt the hate I see on this and other political forums these days.

The left do not want to admit the part the elected democrats have played in our economic mess.

The right do not want to admit that we got here in large part due to what our last president and his administration set in motion.

The tea party seem to want to takes us back to 1776. Without consideration for the fact that we no longer can or do live in that world anymore.

No one has won anything with this election. If you think it was a victory for this country you are part of the problem.

Life is short, Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, Laugh uncontrollably, and never regret anything that made you SMILE!

Did you ask this question of the Dems when they were calling for Bush to be killed? Not die mind you, KILLED. How about when they called for his house to be bombed and burned? Obummer is not MY president. My president wouldn't be a socialist bent on the destruction of this country. My president wouldn't call his political opponents "enemies". My president would be qualified for the job. My president wouldn't tell the opposing party to go to the rear of the vehicle. My president would not shove through programs that the majority of the legal U.S. citizens did not want. My president wouldn't care more for illegals than the legal citizens of this country. My president wouldn't go on an "apology" tour to other countries. I could go on but I think you get the idea.
Although I think alot of us have the same objectives, there is just an understandable disagreement about how we get there.
The biggest wedge driven between the groups is the taxation, as well as what some feel are unjust policies. I, for one, do not care what an individual does with a consenting adult. If gays want to marry, they should be free to do so. I dnot want government funds however to be used to promote homosexuality, nor do I want them to be used for abortions. I do support government subsidized birth control thru local health departments, if the woman so desires.
I do not want the government taking an unfair amount from me however to pay for someone who may decide that it is easier to draw a check than it is to work. I think that policies that dictate employment because of race should be abolished. Whites are no better than blacks, are no better than Hispanics, etc. If we are ever to become one nation, we absolutely have to stop playing the race card at the drop of a hat.
Do I dislike Obama? Yes, I think he was underqualified for the job, and has no idea of how to manage a business. He did contribute to the mess we have here, and it is NOT all GWB fault. He also has continued most of the policies of the previous administration so how any of the liberals can say there has been change is beyond me. Having said that, I do not want him to die. I want his agenda to fail, because I think it is wrong for my family and their future. Increasing debt and making people slaves to the government is not what I envisioned for my children.
For some reason there are those out there who think he is hated because he is black, and to that I say rubbish. He is hated because of his socialist's policies and for the people who he has surrounded himself. they want a socialist state which again is not what mainstream Americans want.
you allude to the fact that a civil war may come, and I echo your feelings. People are not going to continue to be pushed by the government, which refuses to listen to them, without a revolt in the future.
In the next few years we are going to see even more bad times. The employment rate is not going to improve because we DON'T MANUFACTURE anything here for the most part. Small businesses are all we have and the government wants to tax them out of existence.
you are giht to be fearful, but it is not I, nor the people on this forum you should be afraid of, it is the people in Washington who are pulling the strings.

I don't think you understood his post, he is saying that whether he agrees with the president or not, he can't believe that people want this country to fail. Way to go out and label him simply by the fact he doesn't enjoy the hatred. And judging by his post, he seems like a level headed person who probably had the same opinion during the Bush administration (I know I did). Obama IS your president, obviously you didn't vote for him, but we live a democracy, where the will of the people is done, and you can disagree all you want, but Obama won the election, the election where the people of America voted. Obama is your president, just like Bush was your president.
I try to leo, I really do. Then I come on here and other forums and it just scares the crap out of me at how polarized this country is getting.

I know that a lot on here will be outraged by this....but I feel that "news" programs like Fox News and MSNBC have made billions off of the gullibility and manipulation of Americans. All I ever see is the talking points and rhetoric those so called journalist spew. Does the public not see how they are only out for ratings and sponserships? How can so many be so easily led by the 2 sides.

If you believe it is all the lefts fault then you are not able to see past the rights spin.

If you believe it's all the rights fault then you are no different.

Come on Americans, stop buying the BS and start thinking as a united front and demand our government stop playing the usual Capitol Hill games and get something done! No matter what party you identify with. They are ALL corrupt and the system is so f-ed up nothing short of voting out EVERY incumbent will come close to fixing it. However putting another finger pointer in that seat will not help either.

How many times did you guys here a radio ad or see a tv ad where the cadidate never even mentioned his own platform, but instead spent the entire time trying to sling mud on his/her opponent? How about Sharon Angle (who thankfully wasn't elected) saying she would tell what her policies would be once she was elected!! The scary part of that to me was that without even telling the public what she would do in office before she was elected she still received 40% of the vote! WTF! Who votes for someone that will not say publicly what she stands for? I'll tell you who. Those that vote for party line all the way.

Why are we Americans letting this happen to our country? The elections yesterday did nothing to change things. We just put more of the same in place of those that didn't deserve to be there either. They go on with business as usual while we grow more and more angry with each other instead of with those that are behind the curtain pulling the strings.

Couldn't we use these forums to work together to help make a real difference in Washington or am I just living in a dream world?

I am going to stop now because I have a 2 year old that needs me to watch Toy Story with him. I can't refuse. Smiler

What did I misunderstand about his post? He states he's sickened and saddened by people's attitude towards obummer, I ask if he gave the same speech when people were doing the same and worse things to Bush and his family. I've never seen obummer's family attacked. They attacked Bush's daughters constantly. Obummer is not my president. If people wanted this country to fail there would be no opposition to obummer's policies and Nov. 2nd would have looked a lot differently than it did.

Jennifer,

Please calm down. You are an American right? Then yes President Obama is your president too. This is OUR country. We may have different views and opinions but we are all Americans. I do not condone either side wanting to see a freely elected President of the United States killed.

I think you need to re-read what I wrote or maybe you just don't want to meet in the middle. If that is the case then I am obviously not talking to you with this thread.

You could say that about every election we've had over the last 75 years. We've been heading for the cliff since FDR's New Deal. The only affect of elections is the speed at which we get there.

If you failed to see the hatred spewed at the President during the Bush years, you either didn't read very closely or had blinders on.

It's SSDD. Wink

Very well said, Jank!

I don't think the political ads and mud slinging have ever been as hateful as what I've seen in the last few months. Makes you wonder if - God forbid - we were to ever experience another 9/11, would we come together as one country? Would it take that? I remember in 2001 the feeling of unity didn't last very long. Sad.

It would be nice if we could discuss our differences without making it personal. Some people just can't do that.

I do agree somewhat with what you are saying. It has been building for many decades now. I do believe this is the worst I have ever seen when it comes to the hate and anger.

Where does it end? Can we as Americans not put the brakes on and start doing something positive instead of fueling the fire?

I am SICK of hearing you and other people say "insert-name-here" is not your President whenever they don't like who's elected. If "insert-name-here" is President, he is YOUR PRESIDENT if you are a citizen of this country. I didn't vote for Obama and I don't like him, but you people need to realize that if you are a citizen of this country, the man is your freaking President.

YOUR president (Bush) started the socialist ball rolling.

YOUR president led thousands of innocent young men and women to the slaughterhouse - i.e., the war in Iraq - for absolutely no reason; he's got lots of blood on his hands.

YOUR president was an idiot and one of the worst orators I've ever heard try to explain anything!

YOUR president signed the $700 billion economic bailout into law.

YOUR president did absolutely nothing about illegal immigration or healthcare the ENTIRE 8 years he was in office.

Please!

Michelle Obama is attacked by the Right all the time.

Obama's daughters are much younger than Barbara and Jenna were when Bush took office. And even though most of us tried it, when you're the POTUS' daughter and try to purchase alcohol at a Tex-Mex restaurant at age 19, it's going to make the headlines. (That particular stunt was actually Jenna's second citation in less than five weeks.)
Jank,

While I don't know where all the animosity comes from, I do know that it is misguided. The system is broken, not the people we elect to run the system. The system can't be fixed either, because a politician can't get elected on fixing the system. Democrats and Republicans are both united in their opinion that roughly 70% of the budget can't be touched. We're going broke; plain and simple. We have to have the money to pay our existing obligations and we can only get it by taxing or printing, both of which are very bad for nearly all Americans.

Still, most Americans want the government more involved in something. What that "something" is varies from person to person. Some people wanted more healthcare, which we couldn't afford, and those who didn't want it got upset. Some people wanted us to invade more countries, which we couldn't afford, and those who didn't want it got upset. Every politician runs on what they're going to add to the government's growing list of responsibilities and obligations (the right included), and someone is going to get angry about it.

jennifer, obama has made some mistakes. yet he is trying to pull our country out of a really bad recession. his mistakes dont qualify for the death penalty. on the other hand, bush illegally invaded iraq resulting in the deaths of thousands. our country is paying $2 trillion a year on interest on the war costs. he ended stem cell research which has been proven to help the paralyzed. the crooks from the nixon administration say that the things they did were childs play compared to bushs administration. bush let corporations strip away thousands of acres of our national forests. obama has added to our national debt, but the collapse of the economic system lies directly on bushs shoulders.
if a man who destroys the countries land, destroys its economy, takes hope away from the invalid and indirectly murders 100,000 people dont deserve the death penalty, how can the man who is trying his best to correct the mistakes be deserving of it?
Excellent throught provoking post Jank. I have been guilty of hyper partison postings and beliefs and I actually had a moment of clarity watching Jon Stewart's closing statements at the rally for sanity. I may not agree with the right and I still have my core political ideology but this rigid unbending refusal to cooperate and consider the ideas of others must not only be stopped by the politicians, also by the public. And the slurs and hate are totally counterproductive, this has been fueled by the political pundits who are making large salaries to manufacture outrage on both the right and the left. For my small part, one of the things I am doing is no longer watching the talking heads of MSNBC and you know, I am not as angry. Do any of my counterparts want to join me and drop Fox? You may just feel a little more calm and see things with your own perspective, not one you are told to think.

jank

I guess you don't know we are at failure now. Stop cruising the forum and read some facts.
obama has taken more of your rights than you know. People didn't hate him before he set out
to take this country down.

Your liberal and you can't see things in the real light.
You know, we could start our own party right here. We could call it the "Pull Together Party". We could announce to the world that we will no longer allow ourselves to be manipulated by the users on either side who have been trying to divide us for their own political and/or economic gain.
Now THAT would be a REAL grassroots movement that couldn't be co-opted by either side.

2nd would have looked a lot differently than it did.

jennifer, obama has made some mistakes. yet he is trying to pull our country out of a really bad recession. his mistakes dont qualify for the death penalty. on the other hand, bush illegally invaded iraq resulting in the deaths of thousands. our country is paying $2 trillion a year on interest on the war costs. he ended stem cell research which has been proven to help the paralyzed. the crooks from the nixon administration say that the things they did were childs play compared to bushs administration. bush let corporations strip away thousands of acres of our national forests. obama has added to our national debt, but the collapse of the economic system lies directly on bushs shoulders.
if a man who destroys the countries land, destroys its economy, takes hope away from the invalid and indirectly murders 100,000 people dont deserve the death penalty, how can the man who is trying his best to correct the mistakes be deserving of it?
Just more demspin. Dems have no interest in fixing anything or they would have never run a man so utterly unqualified. How fast we forget all the dems on board for the war. You are doing just what I said, all the hate and lies about Bush but we're supposed to feel bad because we oppose this socialist in office. If he's so grand, what happened Tues? You do realize don't you, that people that voted for him went to the polls and tried to fix that error? Unless you live in a cave you had to have heard DEMOCRATS declaring they were voting Republican.

Perhaps a $1billion dollar bounty on Osama instead of $25million would have got us some results.

Or perhaps we should nuke all of their dang sandboxes and let God sort out the details. Maybe people would claim Obozo as their President if he wasn't a statist Kenyan Muslim.

I appreciate your comments, but I think you're mistaken...this has been going on for a long time and the same questions could be (and were) asked of liberals and democrats from '00 - '08. The hate displayed toward Bush many times crossed into "irrational".

However I never said or felt the hate I see on this and other political forums these days.

You were in the minority on the left then...

The tea party seem to want to takes us back to 1776. Without consideration for the fact that we no longer can or do live in that world anymore.

I won't speak for the "tea party"...but you are just wrong about this. Bringing back constitutional order does not regress us to 1776...or 1789 more accurately.

Restoring constitutional order puts political power back where it belongs.

It's an insane...yes insane notion to think that centralizing all political power into one city to govern over 300 million people could ever be fair, just, and civil.

So your answer is to wipe out entire countries to get to a few hundred members of al Qaeda? That's very Christian of you.

Which "god" would sort out the details? Not the one I worship; the God I worship wouldn't condone it.

And Obama has made it clear that he is not a Muslim but I suppose if people are still fighting the idea of a black president they'll say anything.

Ignorance runs deep, especially in the Deep South.
RN,

Thanks for your response. You seem like a reasonable person. I have read many of your post on here and I think you want what I do.

I LOVED the idea of the Tea Party when it first started. Now I feel that it has been taken over by extremist. Maybe I am what would be called a centerist. I find myself in a situation where I agree with some of both sides, but not happy with either in their tactics and crooked ways. What do we do? How do we take back our country?

As you can see from many of the post on this thread it is extremely hard to get folks to focus on what is really going on in Washington without jabs back and forth that get us no where.

I too would like to see more states rights and the ability to govern ourselves on a state and local level. What worries me is that in some areas humans rights would be trampled on again if they were given free reign to make and pass laws without some sort of Federal guidelines. How do we accomplish true freedom without minorities paying a price? I want freedom and equality for all Americans. I don't like affirmative action at all, I think it has actually hurt minorities more than helped them. I see a need for some sort of well fare, but we know how that gets abused by the citizens and government. I am for the right to own a gun. I don't have a problem with needing a license to conceal, but that is about as far as I think the gun laws should go. Taxes...OMG taxes...I wish we had a flat tax. I don't agree with added taxes on luxury items or those things deemed unhealthy either. These are just a few of my views. I could go on to say that I also support the right to choose abortion, and the right for gays to marry if they want to. See...I am hard to categorize as left or right. Smiler

These are the things that keep me awake at night. Frowner

I agree...the solutions will not be found in the typical democrat vs republican...conservative vs liberal.

It is true that a state or local government could be (and is) abusive, but the reach of their power is limited.

The question I ask myself is today, at this moment, where is the most potential for abuse of liberty...to me it's obvious...Washington. And that is whether it's Bush or Obama.

"Skirt the checks and balances" is by no means unique to Obama, or Bush...or Clinton...or Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford...etc.

Washington has been constantly trying to "skirt" constitutional order.
