When you die...you are put in  the dirt.

Eventually you turn into dirt.

Worms eat you. (unless you're QuailDung...nothing eats that sh*t)

You do not fly away.

You do not walk the "Pearly Streets"

You do not meet your Ancestors.

God is not the great WHITE Guy with the puffy beard.

It's a nice notion...but, history proves different...

Embrace it...and be as good as you can be NOW.

Hi Jennifer Best,

The answer is simple.  God created man in His image -- and in that image, man was created to be immortal and eternally happy.  However, when Adam used his gift of "free will" to be disobedient to God -- that all changed.

Man is still immortal, but in this mortal body we are burdened with the Adamic Sin Nature and are lost in sin.  God provided a path out of that predicament by sending his perfect and sinless Son, Jesus Christ, to pay our sin debt, to pardon us, and to set us free.

However, just like a person locked in a prison cell who gets a full pardon -- if the prisoner refuses to accept that full pardon -- he/she will stay locked in that sin prison.

When Jesus Christ died on the cross and resurrected -- He made a "full pardon" available to all people.  But, each person has to accept and receive that pardon individually.  The person who accepts that free gift has the eternal (never ending) gift of life in the presence of God.

The person who refuses His "full pardon" gift -- condemns himself/herself to an eternal (never ending) life void of the presence of God, which is hell.

So,  because all mankind is created in the image of God -- we are eternal, immortal -- and we have no choice in that.   The only question remaining is:  where will we spend that eternity -- in heaven or hell.

The choice is an individual decision -- and EVERYONE must make it.

You ask, "What is the point of death, or the purpose of death?"   Death is the door we all MUST pass through to get from this brief mortal life -- into an eternal, never ending immortal life.  You have only Door A or Door B.  There are no other choices.  So, my Friend, choose wisely -- for eternity is a very, very long time.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

"Original sin" always makes me laugh.  "Original sin" is a concept developed to keep all the sinners in line.  Original sin belies the perfection of God.  What omniscient being would place temptation in front of someone - knowing the outcome - and be mad about it?  Especially after he had already made the same creative mistake with angels?

Why does OT God get so mad about his creation when he knows beforehand the plot?  He supposedly wrote the story and is the puppet master.  Oh, yeah, "free will".  Put the two ridiculous concepts together and you can explain a bumbling god that interferes in our every day lives, and then gets mad at us for acting the way he is directing us.

Original sin and free will are concepts developed by men to explain the schizophrenia of OT God with NT God, and are abused by the fundamentalist street-corner preachers such as Bill DHL™ in order to justify their Jesus Loves Me, But Hates Your Guts theology.

Crusty, my Friend,

Trying to discuss Biblical issues with you -- is like trying to explain how to drive a car to an old woman who has lived all her life in the mountains.  She has no concept of what a car is -- and you have no concept of who God is and what He has inspired to be written in His Bible.

But, no problem.  I realize that you do not like God, Jesus Christ, the Bible -- or any Christian who will defend the Christian faith.

But, not a problem -- at least for me.  You just keep "dissing" God for the rest of this mortal life -- and you WILL get a chance to explain, face to face, with Him all the times He has been wrong.  Good luck!

Bless your little atheist/agnostic heart!

There you go, Bill DHL™ pulling out the lies again.  I'm not "dissing" God, just the silly notions that fundamentalist wackos such as yourself trot out.  I'm perfectly fine with God, the Bible and other Christians.  It is you and your ilk that I have a problem with (and once again, you are neither God, the Bible, nor a Christian).

Discussing the Bible with you is like discussing a soap opera with a ditzy housewife.  You can't tell the difference between reality and fantasy.

Because afterlives don't make sense.  Afterlives require magic...and there is no such stuff.

Just because it doesn't make sense doesn't mean it doesn't exist. How do you KNOW? I'm playing devil's advocate here because I don't KNOW. No matter what anyone thinks or believes, it can't be proved.

Not a Christian afterlife- angels, clouds and gates but a nature/American Indian going on after I die is what I'm hopeing for. Who knows?

Best, I don't know. The point of death is the wearing out of the body that keeps our conscience mind alive. Doesn't really matter what happens to the husk of our body. It doesn't seem out of the question that spark that is us goes somewhere else. Like caterpillars turning into butterflies. It's possible there are dimensions we aren't even aware of, things we can't conceive of.

Those are things I wonder about. Anyone can believe anything, That doesn't make it true. And no one can prove what happens to someone's mind after death
