I touched on this in a thread concerning why the US prospered in the New World, far exceeding that of any of the other nations.  Slavery is, at best, useful in an agrarian society.  Once a nation advances beyond that stage, slavery begins to be counterproductive as to producing wealth.  Even the great plantations in the south weren't all that wealthy -- they existed on loans from season to season. A number of the plantation owners overspent on a lavish lifestyle, uncaring, I suppose of tomorrow.

As the article noted, the northeast, which first outlawed slavery prospered -- mainly because they were the first to enter the first industrial revolution.

I know all this has been covered before, but blacks choose to ignore any history that doesn't fit their agenda. Northern plantation owners rented slaves from Southern owners, and black plantation owners owned slaves, and no, not as acts of kindness. Where does this idea of "docile" blacks come from? They are as ruthless, or more so, as anyone when chasing that dollar.
