I saw the article about the folks in Central Heights. Do you have smoke detectors and have you changed your batteries and tested?

Yes, I do have smoke detectors and have had almost every since they were introduced years ago.
I (try) to remember to test them twice a year at the time change, and they will start squalking when the battery gets low, so I know when to change it.
I got the 10 year ones last year and I test one of them every time I cook.
You should also have one or more carbon monoxide detectors, especially if you use wood heat or space heaters fueled with kerosene or natural gas.

Or if you have an attached garage.
I agree about the detectors. It's such a simple thing but it can save your life.
