I AM AN OUTSIDER. I don't have a horse in this race. I am an AMERICAN so I do have a horse pulling the wagon.

I am angry, worse, I am furious, that this particular issue EXISTS. It is not worth a war, I don't want to argue the rights and wrongs of it, I have an opinion, based on what I consider common decency that says YOU DON'T FLY THE REBEL FLAG AND CALL YOURSELF AN AMERICAN PATRIOT. PERIOD. PATRIOTS DO NOT CELEBRATE THE THE LOST REBELLION.

This editorial is a quiet, reasoned argument saying the same thing, and it comes out of South Carolina.

You are most likely right, I really CANNOT for the life of me understand why anyone in the south wants to fly the Confederate Flag.
I know what that banner represents to me, and to my family, and I HATE IT. My family roots are in Virgina, North Carolina, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York and New Jersey.
It traces back, in the USA, to the Jamestown Colony, AND the Mayflower compact.
On my father's Side I track roots to Spain, France, and if I go far enough back to The Democratic Republic of Congo via Europe. My surname is African. It comes from West Africa, but is found in every nation that touches the Mediterranean Sea.
A careful study of genealogy turns people liberal. It is really hard to hate your 25th cousin when you know that's the relationship.
