I see. STILL NO ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!

Typical liberal response, do not answer the question.

I voted against the pay raise, the NV was for the veto override. I will always NV instead of voting against my party.

Here in is the problem. you are supposed to be there to represent the PEOPLE not a party. The problem with American poiltics now is that the elected think they owe something to the Party instead of to the voters. If we cannot stop this, there is no hope for this country.
Freeman will have my vote. I have known for many years and he is a good man, with a strong allegiance to his country and to the people he would serve. He refuses to take money from large groups who may come calling later, and if that costs him the election, so be it. At least, he is honest and will do what he says, and he shows thru his actions that he does not want to be tied to anyone's purse strings.

a nice sentiment but doesn't work in reality. you sign a pledge when you ask for the support of your party (dem or rep). voting against your aprty gets you ostracized. the press calles you a waffler. all democrats call you a desserter. it is truly a no win situation if you get the reputaitno of voting against your party and said aprty will withhold campaign funs and support if you don't tow the party line.

it is perhaps a sad but true part of politics.

the alternative is to run as a "independent" and in that case, you are all on your own. you get no help from the money handlers (D or R) and you confuse the voters.

im a libertarian - the worst of all worlds according to the typical ignorant voter. the term just confuses the heck out of them. it essentially means i side with dems on many social issues and repubs on fiscal issues but there is more to it than that.

but to insist that the elected official is to serve the wishes of the people 100% of the time is simply unrealistic. it just doesn't work that way.

tammy has done a pretty good job. until a good libertarian candidate surfaces, she will have my vote.

Well then Ms. Irons will get what she gave to me in her voice of Montgomery, and that will be a "No Vote".

Irregardless of what you sign, you should be careful if you do not plan to live up to the epxectations. There was no reason to vote for a pay incrase, and she was given a "walk permit" by the higher ups so she could abstain. Sorry, if you are not man enough to stand up for what the people want, you are doing nothing except answering to the companies and organizations which put you in office, and we don't need any more of that.

Dr. Gerald Freeman will get my vote.....just meet both of them in person and cast your "judgement" on who should get it!! If I trust him with the life of my twins like a TON of people do in Lauderdale County, then I can trust him to do what is best for the county!!! AND DESPITE WHAT SOME PEOPLE THINK, CHANGE IS GOOD!!

Change is good unless it's the wrong kind of change.

Don’t forget they voted themselves an automatic raise every year so that don’t have to vote on the pay raise issue again. She will be elected just because she’s a democrat and most people in this area don’t know any better. She won’t get my vote.

That's amazing...AUTOMATIC RAISES, and old folks on Social Security will go through four years of Obama without a cost of living adjustment. I could use a 62% raise about now... Wink

I will vote against her as she has no integrity, no backbone to make the votes she was sent to Montgomery to make. If she thought the amount was excessive, she should have voted against it. Anyone who thinks a 90 day per year part time job is worth $50,000 plus liberal expense account should vote for her regardless of party affiliation. If you don't think this is right, you should vote your conviction and vote against her. By the way, nice to hear from you Tammy or Curly, whichever you are.

So your complaint is that the legislature was overpaid in 1991, since the most recent raise is merely a cost of living adjustment. What is the correct amount of pay and how did you calculate that number? Dont forget the associated cost of being a legislator, which as you noted are only required to be in Montgomery 3 months per year, but are on call 365 days per year, to answer to their constituents.

how about this?
minimum wage.
for 40 hours a week.
for 52 weeks a year.
families in alabama live off that number every day - so why should the people who are supposed to work for us make 4 times the money we do?
i've met Tammy.. she seemed like a nice lady. friendly, kind, and no sense that she thought she was better than me because she was 'important', and i was just a peon.

i've never heard of her opponent. don't know a single thing about him.
but i'm voting for him.

for the simple reason that tammy irons is the incumbant.

i realize it isn't going to do any good. i knew it wouldn't before i read this thread, and now it's even more clear that my little protest is pointless - however, one must stand up for what you believe, or you're no better than the corrupt powermad sheep that got us into this mess.

we need hard term limits on every elected position in the goverment. it bothers me that people make lifelong careers out of running for office, and getting fabulously rich doing it.

until they impose strict term limits on every elected position, for dog catcher to coroner to sheriff to congressman, i'm voting against the incumbant, regardless of their party and their views on issues.

who i vote for these days doesn't matter anyway - they are all the same old sleazeballs anyway, lying to us to get out vote, lying to their contributors to get their bucks, and lying to the press to get out of trouble.

so, i'm going to continue on, deluding myself into thinking that what i am doing is going to make a difference one day.

pretty much the same thing every one else is doing - albeit for different reasons.
while i know my gesture is pointless, i am convinced that is everyone who voted, in the whole of the US, did what i am doing, it wouldn't take long for the politicians to get the message of 'we are the people, and we don't like how you are doing your job - so we are going to make sure that you don't get to keep your job."

2 terms for executive branch, on any level - federal, state or local...
4 terms for senate, 3 for the house because their terms are longer.

or anything else, really.. anything that imposes strict term limits on these lardbutt leeches, so we can never again have people elected in their 30's and stay there until they die of old age.

anyway. sorry tammy.. you're a nice lady, but i have my own agenda and i have to stand up for my own convictions

I agree in principle that term limits should be imposed. I would think 12 years for each would be sufficient. 6 house terms and 2 senate terms.

yeah... you're correct... it wasn't a typo, it was misthought.. basically i was remembering it backwards. i was thinking 6 for the house and 4 for the senate.. not really sure wehre the 4 came from tho.. maybe was adding the president's term in there for some brain damaged reason..

anyway.. thanks for the catch and the correct..
