Despite Budget Cuts, Layoff Fears, Milwaukee Teachers Fight for Taxpayer-Funded Viagra

Published August 06, 2010

With the district in a financial crisis and hundreds of its members facing layoffs, the Milwaukee teachers union is taking a peculiar stand: fighting to get their taxpayer-funded Viagra back.

At least one lawmaker questioned why the union is fighting for Viagra while teachers are losing their jobs. A consultant for the school board has estimated that reinstating the drug benefit would cost $786,000 per year — the cost to keep perhaps a dozen first-year teachers employed.

So this is what makes unions so great. Mad

Have you forgotten this? This was paid for with our tax money, yet MN wants Viagra instead of paying for it's own teachers. A union is a union, where ever it is.

Senate OKs $26B jobs, Medicaid bill

Politico - 22hrs 39mins ago

Eager to go home for the summer recess, the Senate gave quick approval Thursday to a $26.1 Billion fiscal Aid Package to help state and local governments avoid threatened layoffs, including tens of thousands of Public School Teachers next month. The 61-39 roll call sets the stage for final action in the House next week, and the Democratic leadership signaled that the House Rules Committee will meet as early as Monday evening to prepare for floor debate Tuesday.
I forgot, you're a teacher.

OK em, I guess we will just talk about COBRA, Cherokee, guns in the river, and cheating LEO's.

We can't talk about Sarah Palin, Arizona Law, elections in other states, foreign countries, 9/11, the two wars, or any of the other thousands of topics that pop up daily.

Gotcha! Wink

I also taught critical thinking - and know how to do it! Some of the things I agree with you on and some I do not because I engage in critical thinking and consider situations on their own merits.. I will tell you if you import this stress from MN to your life, you are shortening your life! This is not an opinion - it has been known for a long time. Leave MN in the midwest!
You are putting me on ignore for posting a thread?

Whatever floats your boat. You only defend the decision because it is a union.

Check out the rise of the economy of Germany by cutting unemployment benefits and changing work hours, all with the agreement of the unions. That would never happen here.

Also check out the Harley Davidson plant leaving Milwaukee due to unions.

Unions kill business. Simple.
