Having been in that situation before, I gotta agree with the mad guy here.

Apparently they both either didn't know or forgot Vehicular Combat Rule #1: Keep driving. He who is more mobile wins..

You'd think what with everybody having cell phones growing out of their heads these days that one or both of them would've called the law *as* they were driving.  I hear it happen all the time.

What!? They were outta minutes??

Is there another article? Any witnesses maybe? This story says they both pulled into the parking lot, both got out of their cars, both were arguing, but apparently the blockhead is the only one that had a weapon.

With as many crazed, drugged, insane and perpetually angry people loose in this society, it is folly to pull off the road for an encounter with some stranger whose driving has irritated you or one who has had reason to be irritated by YOUR driving,  No good is likely to come of such an impromptu conference and, as in the instant case, much that decidedly NOT good can happen.  Keep on driving, folks and calm down.

That is more than likely true jtdavis. But why did he follow him into a parking lot and get out of his car to address him? Why not keep going? I don't blame him for what the 17 year old did. I do think he could have avoided the whole thing if he had of just kept driving with his family to their destination. I hope he recovers completely and can learn from this. I hope the 17 year old pays for his actions appropriately. You can't go around hitting people with oars!

As my grandfather used to say. "If you gonna be stupid, then you better be tough."

Exactly. Well said. Best to just drive away and not try to be a big tough guy unless of course you feel you are in immediate danger and must defend yourself. That I can see but otherwise you are just asking for trouble. You just never know what someone's mental state is.
