The FBI has confirmed the motive behind the assault on Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.).

What do they believe?

According to local Kentucky news station WNKY-TV, the FBI launched an investigation into the attack shortly after it happened. They believe the attack, which occurred Friday afternoon, was politically motivated.

The Daily Caller revealed Saturday evening that the assailant, 59-year-old Rene Boucher, is a registered Democrat whose Facebook page was riddled with posts voicing his opposition to President Donald Trump and the GOP.

What happened?

Boucher allegedly assaulted Paul while he was mowing his lawn around 3:20 p.m. Friday afternoon. According to reports, the two are neighbors and have had an ongoing feud, though it’s not clear what the disagreement is.

Boucher was arrested Friday night and booked in the Warren Country Regional Jail on $5,000 bond. He was charged with fourth degree assault. He has since been released, according to WNKY. It’s not clear when his first court date will be.

Paul’s communication’s director told reporters Saturday that the senator was “fine.” He only received minor injures.(sic)

Is this the first politically motivated attack this year?

In our highly charged political society, attacks on legislators have become all too common this year.

Washington D.C., was shaken to its knees this summer when a lone gunman opened fire on a field of GOP congressmen practicing for the annual Republicans vs. Democrats congressional baseball game. Thankfully, no one was killed in the shooting, though multiple lawmakers, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.), were injured in the brazen attack

Desperation met stupidity on the corner of bad luck and despair, and the democratic party was born.
