As to the title "jerk" the protestors, with their infantile signs are truly jerks.

Agree dire. He did nothing that would make him a jerk. As for the "protesters"-disgusting, and a clear case of abuse by signage. This is one of the nothing to it threads that makes the drama queen such a joke. So anxious to belittle a man he makes a thread about how he ordered a sandwich. I guess that means beternnun is a jerk when he orders his food the way he wants it.

Camille Paglia is a confirmed leftist.  However, she has a sharp analytical mind with the ability to set aside her politics.  She gave an interview on the viability of Democrat and Republican presidential candidates for the progressive digital mag, Salon.  She dislikes Hillary, by the way. Here is her opinion of Scott Walker, plus a disparaging analysis of the public unions.

“Let me pull you back to the front-runners. Scott Walker.

I think that liberals are dangerously complacent about Scott Walker. They’ve tried to portray him as a madman, an uneducated rube, a tool of the Koch brothers.  Right now, Walker seems to be the true GOP frontrunner, but I also feel he lacks gravitas.  He’s not ready for his close-up.  What is this oddity about so many of the GOP candidates–their excessive boyishness, as if their maturation stalled?  But Walker is a very talented and combative politician, with far more substance than liberals are allowing for.

The union issue is huge–because as governor of Wisconsin, Walker went to war with unions and won.  Liberals are caught in the past right now in their rosy view of unions, which were heroically established during the progressive era that reformed the abuses of the industrial revolution.  But the union battle in Wisconsin had nothing to do with exploited working-class miners or factory workers.  In his push to balance the state budget, Walker took action against the middle-class public sector unions, whose negotiations with municipal and state governments outside the arena of private competition have become an enormous drain on local budgets as the economy has worsened. There has been a history of rampant corruption in the public sector unions, coming from their cozy quid pro quo relationships with politicians.  Liberals need to wake up about this!  All they have to do is read the obituaries of the smaller newspapers in metropolitan New York to see how the early retirement and lavish pensions of the public sector unions have grotesquely drained taxpayer dollars.  Obituary after obituary–so-and-so, aged 75, worked for fifteen or twenty years as a policeman or city sanitation worker, retired in his late 40s, and spent the rest of his life on the taxpayer’s dime, pursuing his hobbies of fishing, boating, and golfing.  Great work if you can get it!

And then the teachers’ unions! What a colossal tactical error American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten (a longtime Clinton friend and donor) made several weeks ago in unilaterally declaring her union’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton right in the middle of the Bernie Sanders surge. Probably for the first time ever, American liberals woke up to the corrupt practices that have become way too common in the political maneuverings of the big unions. The point here is that Scott Walker, in his defeat of the public sector unions, drew the roadmap for struggling municipal and state governments everywhere to balance their budgets, as he did in Wisconsin.  Because who ends up suffering the most? It’s the kids.  All that money outrageously pouring into inflated pension plans has been gutting public education and community arts programs.

Exactly how have the teachers unions improved the quality of education in our big cities?  Look at the dilapidated public schools in Philadelphia or in many other cities run by Democrats.  The rigid and antiquated seniority system imposed by the teachers unions has been a disaster–”last hired, first fired.”  So many young and vital teachers have been terminated during budget cuts–the entire future of the profession.  The unions value seniority over quality, and it’s inner-city children who have paid the price.

In my opinion, Scott Walker still lacks seasoning, presidential temper, and a working knowledge of international affairs.  But if Democrats try to use the union issue to take him down, they’re simply empowering him–and we’re going to end up with President Walker.”

With the exception I gave in this thread, I must agree.  The left used to describe conservatives as being anal retentive -- I should hope so.  Its the left that spreads bat sheet and monkey crepe every where.

One of the funniest parts, they said he left his "trash" behind. A bottle of water and a half eaten sandwich. Who knows what happened to cause him to leave it on the table. The place is so filthy maybe he thought that was protocal. Any who, this filthy city had the nerve to say something about him being rude and leaving trash!!! Why go to this snake pit anyway? Don't the lefties EVER get tired of being raging hypocrites???

To the Editor:

Happy New Year, South Philly.

I hate to start the new year on a sour note, but I’ve held it in as long as I can. Does anyone in South Philly know what a broom looks like?

I’m not talking about the three or four people who actually know how to use a broom, I’m talking to the other few thousand homeowners and renters who do not. How can anyone be proud to call South Philly home? I am embarrassed beyond belief to bring any guests to my home because they have to travel through some of the filthiest streets I have ever seen in my life to get to my block.

You want to have a block party? You want to have a barbecue? You want to have a New Year’s party? Great, but don’t you think you should clean up afterward? Want to shoot fireworks? I love ‘em! Clean up afterward. And the garbage does not go down the sewer. It goes in the appropriate trash receptacles.

If the City wants to cure its financial crisis, all it has to start doing is giving tickets.

I, myself, am a dog owner and always pick up after my dog. To all the lazy owners who do not, you make it very bad for us responsible pet owners, and I don’t care to step in your dog’s waste. Pick it up or let your dog crap in your living room so only you have to deal with it. Cleaning up after your pet is part of pet ownership. If you can’t handle it, don’t have a pet.

How do you teach your children self-respect without teaching them to respect where they live? They learn by example and I see all the parents trashing the neighborhood, so I can’t place the blame on the kids. Respect your neighborhood, be an active part of your community and watch the crime go down. Yes, I contribute to my local civic organization, but a few people can’t possibly keep up with all this trash. Everyone has to pitch in.

South Philly has so much to offer. I really want to be proud to live here, and the buy in is only a 99-cent broom. Please can we all pitch in and clean up, not once or twice, but all the time. I have photos of brooms for those of you who do not know what to look for in the store.

Have a happy, healthy and hopefully cleaner new year.

Mary John

South Philadelphia

Excerpt from a couple of the replies

I myself have swept the corner store, sidewalk and street, I can’t tell you how many times and people would just throw their trash right on the ground, sometimes right in front of me, while I am actually sweeping and the cars passing by would just throw their trash right out their window...I mean. This is totally ridiculous!
There are trash cans everywhere in site. One in the store before you leave...one right outside the store on the corner of the store and another one right by the ally way. How lazy can you get?

In the summer- time, we get someone to put the fire hydrant on hoping that people would take part or take the hint to come out and join in the sweep. It’s not that hard people!. All you need is a few moments of your time during your daily c****s, a broom, a shovel and maybe a small bucket or empty box.
Don’t you know that cleanliness is next to Godliness? Just think how beautiful our street would be if we all pitched in together and not just the few people that do.
Thank you Mary for what you wrote last week. You have inspired me to write back.
I hope all of youl take this seriously and not get offensive in any way, that you wouldn’t pick up a broom and pitch in. Take to heart that all am saying is ..It would be a very nice if we can get off the computers and cell phones once in awhile a come out to say hello to a neighbor who is sweeping right along with you. Just like the good old days. I wish you all a Happy, Healthy, Prosperous and Safe blessed New Year!
Respectfully,
Diane
God Bless!

I actually wrote an editorial several years ago to talk about the area along Ritner St. between 5th St. and 8th St.  My God those people in that area are total pigs.   No one ever sweeps, they just keep adding to the mess

Why Are Philadelphia’s Streets So Filthy?

When, exactly, did the garbage win? Plus: A day in the life of Philly trash, and five smart ways to get the city clean — permanently.

Every snowy week this past winter, my block in Bella Vista resembled the site of a garbage strike. Lumpy piles of trash built up day after day, knocking over brown-paper recycling bags that dissolved into mounds of cardboard-and-plastic-bottle mash, hair weaves and food wrappers. It looked like the prequel to Wall-E.
Of course, it wasn’t just my street — nearly anyone in the city could describe a similar scene. That’s just what you see in Philadelphia in wintertime. Oh, and also on windy spring days. Or fall ones. And also, sometimes, in the sweltering still of summer. Garbage in the street, on your stoop, swirling into your eyes. That’s life in Filthadelphia for you. And that’s not just Philly cynicism talking: A few years back, when Travel & Leisure ranked the dirtiest cities in America, Philly was runner-up only to New Orleans. And in May, City Controller Alan Butkovitz released a report noting that some 80,000 households in Philly don’t have their trash collected on time in any given week.

Oh my, I sure hope this isn't "so's yer old man"!!!!! Not finding a lot of "social graces" in old philly.

Pee Bee sez:

Because most people don't care.  It's not just in the ghetto that I live in.  I work in a law firm in Center City and the same ignorant mentality exists.  Bathrooms are as filthy as the Trenton Train Station men's room and the kitchen isn't far behind that.  Philthadelphia.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) learned that the hard way on Tuesday while visiting two of the city's popular cheesesteak spots, where he cut in line, left behind his trash,

This was in the article. Since y'all are Walker fans, that part don't count. It was wrong, all the other stuff was right.

Also, note that he went to two places.

One person says he cut in line, another denies. Both appear to have reasons to support their side of the story.  Contenduhh, he said and she said is a sorry sort of argument that doesn't hold up well. If that's all you got,?

The author of the article, obviously had an agenda.  What does visiting other places have to do with anything?   In all, its weak article with a weaker premise.

No deflection at all jt. Pointing out the hypocrisy of the lefties. Like you crying about CEOs and the "rich people" when you wouldn't give anyone a dime of what the unions extorted for you.  Did it deflect you? Seems it didn't. The city is nasty, the people are nasty. I asked why he'd even step into this snake pit.

If the choice is between a candidate who needs the social skills parents and ages ago, teachers taught to five year old children and a candidate who never seems to turn down a bribe; I'll take the childish one. I also think Hillary probably needs a spanking more than Walker with her greater sense of entitlement.

First of all they can put what they want in the article. I stand by what I posted, I don't believe for one instant the man walked up and just "cut" in line. As dire pointed out, it was weak reporters and a weak article, and a pitifully desperate move where they tried to make a big deal out of the "trash". As posted, who knows why it was left, and I bet one of his "people" cleared it up before they left. Now I'm a "fan" of his? Really? Wow, show me all the other posts I've made about him that leads you to this conclusion. What I'm NOT a fan of is people so silly they try to make a big deal out of nothing. You are as big a joke as beternnun trying so desperately to make SOMETHING out of NOTHING. I notice neither you or beternnun had anything to say about the nasty signs the "protesters" were holding.

Then there was the fact that, as the story was first told, Walker cut to the front of the line at Geno’s as the cameras clicked away, then left half his cheesesteak from Pat’s on the table for others to dispose of. His campaign later noted that the owner brought him to the front, so it wasn’t just boorishness, and he only left his sandwich temporarily, later finishing it on his way to the car (and anyway, it was his second, which is a lot for anybody). But the damage was done: “A Philly Faux Pas by Scott Walker” reads the article on the New York Times web site; “Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker visits Pat’s and Geno’s amid protests, bad cheesesteak orders” says Philly.com.

So there you have it jt and beternnun. The damage was done, the on purpose lies by the lefties have been spread.

It's just ridiculous. I have posted that when something makes no sense I look for the "rest of the story", and if it's a leftie making a claim against an opponent you better believe I don't trust the story to be true and will search for the real story. I knew the man did not barge/cut to the front of the line. I knew the man didn't just say "blank it" and leave his garbage. Then we get to read jt's STUPID question, and beternnun's equally stupid answer, as if they were discussing something that amounted to something. Oh, and the claim jt made that we support him because we are Walker fans. No jt, I just know what LIARS and drama queens you lefties are. Sheesh.

So you and Best decide to rely on the version of the story told by Walker's campaign staff? You submit that as the only totally true and verified account of the matter, while dismissing all other possibilities. Thus do you pick and choose the story that best fits your biases.

Campaign staffs, as we all know, never put spin on anything!

From a tweet in the Philadelphia newspaper article:

<<<Several Philly tourists not amused with Scott Walker crashing their lunch. Overheard: “Stand in line with the rest of us.” “Who is that?”>>>

The matter is far from settled, given the conflicting accounts.

No egg on my face or JT's.

Big deal beternnun. IF they brought obummer somewhere I was, and I was in line and the owner escorted him to the front, I would say something very similar, such as "he should stand in line like the rest of the folks", then I'd leave, because it would make me lose my appetite to see his traitorous mug. That does not mean Walker cut the line, it means they were unhappy he was taken to the front. So they don't know who he is. So what? I doubt I'd recognize him, even with jt claiming I am a "fan". Give it up. Your nothing thread is still a nothing but a desperate attempt to make something out of nothing, thread.
