Obama is in the midst of one. Can the GOP avert one of their own?

Passage of the health-care bill will be, for the administration, a catastrophic victory. If it is voted through in time for the State of the Union Address, as President Obama hopes, half the chamber will rise to their feet and cheer. They will be cheering their own demise.

If health care does not pass, it will also be a disaster, but only for the administration, not the country. Critics will say, "You didn't even waste our time successfully."

What a blunder this thing has been, win or lose, what a miscalculation on the part of the president. The administration misjudged the mood and the moment. Mr. Obama ran, won, was sworn in and began his work under the spirit of 2008―expansive, part dreamy and part hubristic. But as soon as he was inaugurated ,the president ran into the spirit of 2009―more dug in, more anxious, more bottom-line―and didn't notice. At the exact moment the public was announcing it worried about jobs first and debt and deficits second, the administration decided to devote its first year to health care, which no one was talking about. The great recession changed everything, but not right away.

The public in 2009 would have been happy to see a simple bill that mandated insurance companies offer coverage without respect to previous medical conditions. The administration could have had that―and the victory of it―last winter.

Instead, they were greedy for glory.

When he was elected most of us had the opinion that it would be okay because we were broke and he couldn't loot Washington. What we didn't know was that he was going to steal it from our kids.

Everything from Obama's election to his policies has been overreaching. They could have had Hillary but as you say they got greedy.
Have to agree RP. This is a total travesty. I am at an age where it doesn't bother me too much anyways. It affects my kids and grandkids.
The folks that are cheering this on are in a large percentage of people that don't pay taxes or contribute to the prosperity of the country. Sorry to say that but it is pretty much a known fact.
Interesting!!!

It does not hurt to read this several times.

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul , Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning last November's Presidential election:

? Number of States won by: Obama: 19 McCain: 29

? Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 McCain: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million

McCain: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by:

Obama: 13.2 McCain: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals and they vote, then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.

If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.

If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom.

Yet once more, the gullible anti-Obama crowd--including pineywoodscat, above--is circulating theTOTALLY BOGUS CLAPTRAP above, purported to have originated with Professor Olson.

There is indeed a Professor Joseph Olson who serves on the law school faculty of Hamline University.
Professor Olson's biography on the University's web page describes his numerous professional and academic accomplishments. A link to this information is posted below. Also posted below is Professor Olson's disclaimer making it plain that he had nothing to do with the e-mails purporting to be his analyses of the 2000 and 2008 presidential elections. Professor Olson speaks:

<<<<DISCLAIMER: There are a series of e-mails floating around the internet dealing with the 2008 Obama/McCain election and the 2000 Bush/Gore election, remarks of a Scottish philosopher named Alexander Tyler, suicide rates, or ANYTHING ELSE. I did not author any part of either email. I've been trying to kill this fallacy for nearly 10 years. I didn't have any part of it in 2000 and I still have no part of the email in regards to the 2008 election. For details see: http://www.snopes.com/politics...asp.>>>>

Olsen web page:

More debunking of this silly stuff is found at:

http://www.factcheck.org/2009/01/unreported-stats/

Now, if pineywoodscat or any of you readers of this manufactured and utterly false drivel have gotten all excited and forwarded it to your e-mail communities or to other forums, it is time to get busy and post corrections to all of those you may have thus far contaminated with this libelous, false, and corrupt wingnut propaganda! Surely you have enough integrity to correct any such misleading messages, since you must know that this kind of balderdash has a way of proliferating exponentially among the large and regrettable class of largely undereducated persons who decline to personally question anything, no matter how absurd, so long as it feeds their own narrow political biases!

It does not do you any good at all to read it even once, since it is bogus! See my related post in this string and follow the advice I give there. SHAME on you for posting this garbage!

Your little propaganda piece says:

"If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.

If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom."

I am in favor of someone tracking down the verminous swine who concocted this fabricated B.S. and beating him silly with a wet carp!

Weak, very weak, JOY. You have a hard time facing the reality that there are legions of gullible nutcakes who suck up on and propagate every silly lie perpetrated by the anti-Obama crowd. It is ludicrous to imply in any way that Obama's unintended reference to the number of states in the Union is anywhere near on a par with the manufactured and totally bogus "statistics" in that widely-circulated tripe that I exposed above.

Now go occupy yourself in something more productive, like perhaps some intensive on-line research into the issue of Obama's birth certificate or his alleged membership in the Muslim faith, both being pursuits worthy of your level of intellectual attainment!

As opposed to the truthers, who believe that the US caused 9/11! The truthers believe hundreds of persons conspired to kill thousands. Yet, not one has been caught or confessed.

At worst, the birthers believe a few people are conspiring to hide a birth certificate. Now, who has the biggest number of screeching moonbats? Certainly not the conservatives.

You apparently conclude that the "truthers" have no conservatives among them. How do you get to that conclusion? I tend to place "truthers" in an altogether different subspecies--neither liberal nor conservative--just NUTS! Or if you prefer, "moonbats."

Wikipedia offers this. Read the last line carefully.

<<<Some of the organizations state that there is evidence that the United States government may have been either responsible for or knowingly complicit in the September 11 attacks. Motives given include the use of the attacks to initiate the launch of wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and in creating the opportunities to curtail civil liberties.[2] Members of the movement are often referred to as "truthers,"[14] "conspiracy theorists,"[1][15][16] occasionally as "9/11 deniers,"[17][18] and by sympathetic writers as "9/11 skeptics."[19][20] Members of the movement hold diverse views on other political issues.>>>
