I notice where District Attorney Mike Nifong has apologized to those Duke University men for falsely charging them with rape, assault, and a few other little mistakes.

Nifong makes me sick. He wanted to put those men in prison for 30 years... 30 YEARS... just to further his petty political career.

If I had a son among those guys, I would be looking for the meanest lawyer in all of North Carolina to sue Nifong's keester off.

Thank goodness the system worked, at least as well as it did, but remember this: Those men had financial resources and hired expensive lawyers to defend them and still it took 13 months to get bogus charged dropped.

What if it had happened to you, or one of your kids? If there is any justice, Nifong will be disbarred and successfully sued.

Think of the can of worms he has opened. Every case he prosecuted will use this as a reason for re-filing their cases.

I happen to agree that the situation was horribly bad. It should never have happened.

Emmett Till comes to mind every time the story is brought up. I can't help thinking that had the woman been white, and the athletes black the outcome may have been very different.

Then the Kobe Bryant Case drifts into consciousness, and the OJ Simmons Trial.

One thing for sure. There's no telling "HOW MANY" more people may be sitting behind bars TODAY that might not even be guilty.

Does make you wonder. Out here in LA, we used to have a District Attorney who prosecuted every one who used a gun, even in self defense. He was just anti-gun, and he abused the privilege often. Luckily, he's gone now.

America does not have "The Best Legal System In The World". Not even very close, I think.

Any ideas how to change it?
