A bunch of TV personalities and a handful of politicians are not Liberal heros.

My short list would be...

MLK

Ghandi

FDR

Thomas Paine

Bernie Sanders

Elizabeth Warren

JFK

William Wilberforce

Hi Jank,

With MLK and William Wilberforce -- I agree completely.   As for the others, they all wore, or currently wear, the Liberal Left mantle.  So, I would have to include them in the Liberal Heroes group even if they were left out of that painting.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

Dire you know what I think FDR did ok I think the disconnect is work!  I mean a lot of good was done with many aspects of the New Deal and many improvements were made in the U.S. but one had to work to get a check or be genuinely disabled "not have carpal tunnel" etc.   Sadly thru time the rules were changed and one could sit at home and get a check and housing and many fell into the spiders web that created.  Also, it became racist to ask ones legal status before allowing them to get the benefits created for U.S. Citizens to the problem was multiplied not to mention illegal.  The sad part is we "tax paying Americans" stand by and let this happen and continue!

I give FDR a half pass on his economic practices.  He was dealing with a major depression resulting from stupid government response to a major recession (sound familiar).  Keynesian economics was the theory of the day.  With the different programs, people did work and receive money for honest work  However, taxes diverted from the private sector cause small business to suffer and the depression to lengthen due to a stalled economy.  Government spending never results in a thriving economy -- else Spain Portugal and Italy would be thriving, France a powerhouse and the UK of the 1970s another powerhouse, instead of the sick man of Europe.

The truth about FDR is that he felt sorry for the ignorance in the Tennessee Valley. The once fertile land in the South was washed into the Tennessee River Basin due to farmers plowing uphill instead of terracing around the hills. They planted cotton every year further depleting the soil. The fertilizer plants helped regain the soil nutrients and helped the war effort but its cost made competition with Nawthen and Midwest farmers who didn’t plow uphill and rotated crops at a disadvantage.

Guess what? The ignorant South still plows uphill in spite of hell at every opportunity that is naturally afforded to them as conservatives.

Thank God Henry Ford didn’t buy TVA. There wouldn’t be any fertilizer and we wouldn’t have a single watt of electricity because it would have been shipped up Nawth to run Ford’s wheels up there.

We would still be renderin’ fat for light and choppin’ down what few trees left to keep warm. Lol

The Feds can be a friend or your enemy. Right now your elected persons are kicking opportunity in the teeth daily in Montgomery and lookin’ up to see if the big boys in Texas and the up-East-rich are nodding at their silly azzes.

Quit plowing uphill.

Try actually reading for meaning, Crash.  Huffpost did not produce those maps; they were prepared by Gallup, a respected information source. You and others who contemptuously reject information solely on the basis of its source are just too lazy to offer a reasoned rebuttal.
