The site's free *because* they advertise.  Just like the stations on your radio are free-but ya gotta listen to ads.  Ads pay the bills.

Does Lawrenceburg have a paper?  

Lawrenceburg does have two  twice weekly papers.  The mentioned events were in them.  As for advertising, look at the 4 Ergo Baby carrier posts today.  They were not in the advertising section, they were in the posting section.

Curious to know what exactly you consider "Free Advertising" going on here?   

IF a forum member is an owner of a business and chooses to post and promote their business then I would agree it's circumventing paid advertising.  IF however a forum member with no ties, financial or otherwise comments on a business in a positive (or negative) way then that's what the forum is for if say it's someone recommending or advising about something they have found that they want to inform others about.  So just curious what post or topic you feel is taking advantage of "free advertising" on this forum?

I don't think they "allow" them because they delete them after they find them. Because people can sign up and use the forum for free, there is abuse by all sorts of unscrupulous people. What's really low is when they use it to promote their sites, and run the TD down while they're at it.

The OP seems to be referring to the bot posts. Yet, if the TD holds off on approving poster, it gets slammed for that also. I haven't seen any posters advertising business they own.

He didn't initiate the post. That's the difference.

I don't see any difference. 

I've reported all 4 of the baby carrier posts as spam. I'm sure TD will delete when they get the notices. They always do.

Looks like they took them down already. I didn't read them, but saw them listed in 3 or more places.

I appreciate posts regarding new businesses - especially places I don't know about - whether negative or positive. They help me determine if and/or when I want to patronize them. I don't consider that free advertising. I consider it informative as a community service. Sometimes complaints result in improved service.

Semi, if you own a business that someone on here asks a question about, wouldn't you post some information to clarify it?

I like the posts where someone independent of the business rates  a business.  The ones I referred to were 4 long posted ads for a particular product

I think you'll notice that ObiWan took down that link. How about if I posted it? And since you call everything a blog, are all news items posted in bad taste?

Getting back to the initial post. They do delete spam usually as soon as they see it but this forum isn't moderated constantly. May be a day or two but eventually they will delete it.
