I admit that it's a charming old-fashioned Deep South expression for genteel ladies to use: "Why, bless your heart."

But some of us might need more basic divine intervention for our everyday problems. For example, for someone who is in the throes of Montezuma's Revenge, wouldn't "Why, bless your bowels" be more appropriate."?
