For those who like(d) Wintzell's Oyster House you'll have to drive a little farther, from Florence, as the Decatur Restaurant that was located in the old Princeton's restaurant closed (I believe) in late December.  The closest location is now Huntsville, Alabama.

I became aware of the closing when I read a Times Daily article about where Sam's Grille owners are going to or seeking to locate a Sam's Grille location in the building that Wintzell's was in.

Wentzell's okay for seafood, but not really that great.  But it's nice that the Huntsville location's not out of the way--on University Dr.

They also have the Landrys Seafood on I-575 that's really good.

But my favorite seafood restaurant is really Bonefish Grille @ Whitesburg Dr. South.  Another Bonefish Grille is in Cool Springs.

I'm assuming that is Cool Springs Mall just south of Nashville on I65?  IF so Great area and not a bad one day trip to take from Florence to just get away and look around.

I am talking about Cool Springs/Franklin, TN.

With the completion of Tennessee's 4 lane highway, it's just over 1 1/2 hrs. from Florence following the speed limit.

There's really little time difference between the drive to Cool Springs or Huntsville if you hit much traffic @ Madison on University, or go south on I-65 to I-575.

Which four lane highway are you referring to?  I know you can go up 65 from Athens (exit 351) but the only other road I am familiar with is out of Lawrenceburg but I don't know the quality of that road.

Wintzell's was a deservedly popular place in Mobile for seafood for many years.  I patronized the place as far back as the 1960s, when it was in its heyday.  It went through a period of decline following the death of its owner and founder and has never regained the quality of food and service it had in the earlier era, though it is by no means an inferior place to enjoy seafood.

I don't know why the Decatur operation folded, but I recall the early failure of the Dreamland restaurant in the Shoals, which simply did not match up to the quality of its mother ship in Tuscaloosa.  Just having the same name as some great eatery does not make a restaurant great.
