What would Bear Do?

The late great Paul "Bear" Bryant had a well-deserved reputation as a strict disciplinarian.

Today's Times Daily, along with the Huntsville network TV channels reported the arrests of three UNA football players, including the team's starting quarterback, for violating the laws governing use of alcohol by under-aged persons.

UNA's coach, Bobby Wallace, promptly announced that the layers will not be suspended, and that "We are going to take care of it internally."

The external "taking care of it" will be carried out ion the Florence Municipal Court.  The violations are considered misdemeanors, and carry possible penalties of fines and jail time.

To those of you who are old enough to remember or who otherwise are familiar with  Coach Bryant's approach to discipline, do you believe that he would have decided in such a case to permit the offending players to go ahead and suit up for the next game?

Before you answer, you should read THIS:

I yam what I yam and that's all I yam--but it is enough!

Then, according to you, is it appropriate for "college kids,"  and "normal students",  to violate the laws regulating alcoholic beverages?

LOL! Contendah, high school kids, some even younger, violate the laws regulating alcoholic beverages AND drugs, and you're going to act surprised? And jt, why, because they're football players, are you holding them to a higher standard? BTW, they should be benched.

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but on college campuses, booze is being consumed by underage students. The only ones that get into trouble are athletics.

____

I am well aware  that alcohol control laws are routinely broken on college campuses, but the fact that laws are broken does nothing to justify the breaking of laws. And you should not make such blanket statements as you made in your last sentence without checking out the FACTS.  Start here:

Not sure whether this means you are revising your earlier post.

What YOU said was that the only ones that get into trouble are athletes.  That is a different thing from "the only ones making news."

So now you are for the deportation of all illegal aliens?  After all, they are breaking the law.

Based on the fact that he said "but the fact that laws are broken does nothing to justify the breaking of laws" would make me right on the mark.  Hypocrisy is hypocrisy, regardless of the theme of this thread.  Try to keep up Jim.
