McDonald's Corp. has warned federal regulators that it could drop its health insurance plan for nearly 30,000 hourly restaurant workers unless regulators waive a new requirement of the U.S. health overhaul.

The move is one of the clearest indications that new rules may disrupt workers' health plans as the law ripples through the real world.

Trade groups representing restaurants and retailers say low-wage employers might halt their coverage if the government doesn't loosen a requirement for "mini-med" plans, which offer limited benefits to some 1.4 million Americans.

You are misunderstandimating the wording. Your current health plan can change whnever your insurance company wants to change it, and/or your employer decides to change plans or coverages. The current system is unsustainable, and since no RepubTeaCon proffered a plan, the Democare plan was enacted. BushII had his chance and chose to just by the Florida vote bloc with his Medicare Part D.
No Juan, you are misunderstanding. This is exactly what people in the know said would happen. When you put the kinds of demands on corporations which will be placed on them thru this Healthcare Plan, they cannot sustain, and would rather pay the penalty, and allow you to get your insurance thru the government programs.
That is what everyone who understood it, KNEW would happen, and this is the first of many that will do that. you are somewhat correct. It was not a direct action of the plan, but it is the unintended consequence of a poorly proffed plan, that will do nothing to lessen the burden on healthcare providers nor the government programs, and it sure will not lessen the burden on you nor I when we have to reach in our pocketbooks to pay for it.

You're quoting Rush. Please please stop.

Corps will do what makes the most monetary sense, in spite of their employees concerns, especially companies that depend on teenage employees. How much can their healthcare expense be when they are insuring teenagers???

Get the employers out of the position of choosing peoples healthcare plans!!!
the cost are far outpacing inflation, meaning that only you rich folks will have insurance and the rest of us will be getting Medicaid further bankrupting the country. I work for a faily large company in HSV, our insurance was dropped in early 2009. My BCBS insurance has had 3 premium increases in the last year, one of which included the doubling of the annual deductible. I dont care who fixes the problem, just fix it.

None of those statement, if true, prove an "unsustainable" system. A bad system? Maybe, but certainly one that would continue to operate, albeit in a different manner.
If the present system isn't sustainable, neither are the EU/Canadian systems, either. Canada is researching how to cut their expenses, to include private insurance. The UK is planning to close several facilities and cut their PHS budget severely. Germany made their system means tested and forced many to go to private insurance. The waiting lines are growing, especially in the UK and Canada.

You my ill-informed friend are a lost cause. what you speak of is exactly the consequences of this stupid draft of a plan. It will do nothing to freeze your costs. BC/BS raised their rates in anticipation of it, and because they will be forced to take on those who have had no pre-existing coverage despite their history.
You are an idiot, if you believe that the corporations should have no say in picking their healthcare plans. These plans cost money, and young people are often involved in accidents, shootings, and malignancies which cost huge dollars to treat and will eat up a company's coverage very very quickly.
McDonald's is the first of many from which this will happen, and then MEDICAID will be the only game in town, but that is what the government wants - one covergae for everyone. Every one equal with the same sorry state of care. So despite your hate for the rich, whom you think will be able to afford it, we can all suffer in misery, since they will be the only game in town. But then again a socialist believes everyone should suffer like he or she does.
BTW, I am not speaking from Rush, I am speaking from my current knowledge of how the system works and what businesses have said all along they would do if this plan was implemented.
