Old Salt, the Founders had it right. Leave religious opinion to the individual, and keep the state out of it. Why can't the Brooks people see this?
At the risk of answering my own question, they've been misled by people who tell them that this is a Christian country, in the fashion of certain European states which assume that every citizen adheres to an official state religion.

We do (#/*#)<! not. Nor will we. Nor will we sit idly by while others insinuate a de facto official religion.
