Hi all,

Firenze tells us, accurately quoting from Genesis 1, "Whether you believe the Bible or not, it states that God created all animals to  be herbivorous (vegetarian). 29 "And God said, 'Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. 30 And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.'  And it was so.""

SeniorCoffee asks, "So since the average carnivore proves that to be hogwash, why would you quote it as an example.  The only thing it shows is how out of touch with reality the Bible really is.  Did all the herbivores evolve into carnivores since it was written?"

And, Vic, jumps in with, "Sanka, You miss the whole point of the point God was making.  You know Cain was the first human to eat meat after he was run out of town, don't you?"

SeniorCoffee asks Vic, "I'm not a Biblical scholar by any stretch of the imagination even though I've read several versions.  And really haven't spent much time with the Old Testament, so please educate me and direct me to the chapter and verse that makes the claim that Cain was the first to eat meat."

Actually, Firenze is correct that in Genesis 1 God did create all animals and man to be herbivorous (vegetarian).  And, I am not sure where Vic got his information about Cain.   Prior to the Flood, man and animal coexisted in peace, neither harming the other.   Although God had set a precedence that man's clothing would be made from the skin of animals -- man did not eat animals at that  time.

We read in Genesis 9:1-4, "And God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. The fear of you and the terror of you will be on every beast of the earth and on every bird of the sky; with everything that creeps on the ground, and all the fish of the sea, into your hand they are givenEvery moving thing that is alive shall be food for you; I give all to you, as I gave the green plant. Only you shall not eat flesh with its life, that is, its blood.' "

So, after the Flood God decreed that man, and many animals, would eat meat, fish, and fowl.   Until then, they ate only green plants.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill
