Joseph Zwilling, a spokesman for the Archdiocese, said pastors have been empowered to urge police parishioners to shuffle their church-going schedules so every Mass is covered. “The pastors would do this privately, one on one. … The pastor knows his people,” he said. He said they “would not be serving in any particular role at the Mass other than attending.”
If this country is going to heal itself, then religious leaders need to be at the front lines. Religious leaders should be empowered to fight for unity and healing. trump isn't going to unite us. None of our politicians are going to unite us.
That's how separation of church and state is supposed to work. Politicians govern. Religion steps in as the voice of reason when needed (in the world, but not of it).
