Buyer's Remorse

I don't think, given this year's performance, at least to this part of the season, which college team's coach is poorly thought of by the team's fanbase.  Given many teams' expectations, before this year began, I believe the teams, and coaches, that have disappointed their team's fanbase the most has to be led by Gus Malzhan and Auburn.

The sound loss to Tennessee, given their year's performance, has to be the straw that broke the camel's back.  Given that Gus Malzahn was given a new extended 49 million dollar contract at the end of last year along with this year's performance has put the Auburn fanbase in great doubt about the teams, and coaches, future.  Other great disappointments would have to be the breakdown of Ohio State against Perdue and Chip Kelly along with UCLA.  Not to be omitted though would be the year's performance of Nebraska and Scott Frost.

UCLA and Nebraska's fanbases no doubt anticipated or hoped for, different outcomes for their team this year given their respective coaches records with their previous college teams.  Chip Kelly at Oregon and Scott Frost at UCF.  Once Kelly left Oregon their program trended downward and at least UCF has continued their unbeaten record once Frost left, taking his complete coaching staff of assistants.  I would have also included Chad Morris and Arkansas into the disappointment category but I don't think that the fans at Arkansas are near as demanding or expecting as Auburn's fans and I think they are also much more patient giving the coach time to start trending upward.  Also of the teams listed I think Gus Malzhan will be given the shortest rope and given Auburn fans prior years performance you can bet there will be the calls to replace the coach at the end of this year regardless of their, rest of the year, performance.

It is with Gus Malzhan in mind that I titled this post "Buyer's Remorse" because of the amount of the contract extension, at the end of last year's season along with the expectation for this years team.  No doubt Urban Meyer and Ohio State were expected to compete for the National Championship and given their defeat of Penn State at Penn State and the way they came from behind to win no one foresaw Purdue cleaning their clock in such a determined way.  Now Ohio State fans are going to be on pins and needles, so to say, awaiting Michigan and given that the game will be at home, at Ohio State, Meyer will be expected to win the game and hope that the committee will smile on them as it did Alabama last year in getting into the final four.
