free speech is over used,,, it protects you from government persecution. It doesn't protect you from others, you boss,, or being sued. it doesn't mean you have the right to instigate, harass, call names, lie, etc.
a challenge we have is the left assumes what you are saying...ie; Trump voters are racist,,, wearing the MAGA hat is racist. Then they call names because of their assumptions. Assumeing,,, makes an ASS our of U and ME.

However, the law permits civil redress against ones rights in the form of lawsuits and prosecution for threats of violence.
