Who cares about the shutdown; both parties blew through the spending caps to fund their priorities that can't be covered by future GDP growth. Reality time is here and it's time to choose; we can have a decent military that can protect us or we can have a European style welfare state for a decade or two longer until we crash and burn. Likewise, the US can have a welfare system or open borders, but not both. It it means a little inconvenience, fine, let the minority party shut down the government.
