Unfortunately intellectual abilities are scorned by rank and file Republicans. I think it has become a sad thing, but it seems to be true. Just look at the list of their heros you posted.
I'm not too sure when that started, but defending the dumbest of presidents in the modern era probably served as a catalyst, followed by McCain's unfortunate choice of a running mate sealed the deal.

There is no proof as to Obama's intelligence. He had banned disclosure of his SAT score, college grades, and college papers. He claims to have graduated "*** laude" and we must take his word for that. He was the editor of the Harvard Law Review, but nothing he wrote was published, making his a glorified proof reader.
If the dumbest, your mean Bush, then, No! Harvard MBA. His grades and SAT score were slightly above Kerry's and equal to, or slightly below Gore's.
