I don't remember unions at the War of Independence -- didn't take a union to write the Declaration of Independence, defeat the Brits (French helped -- they were warriors back then). Didn't take a union to write the Constitution, nor the Bill of Rights. A union didn't free the slaves, nor hold Bastogne at the Battle of the Bulge. Unions didn't invent the automobile, the electric light, the TV, or radio, nor design mass assembly plants.

Unions weren't the cause of the 8 hour day, nor the weekend. Henry Ford wanted three shifts a day. Plus wanted working people to have time off to use and buy his cars.
