Its long past religion being the motivator for most of the mullahs. After seizing the estates and wealth of the old rulers and others, the mullahs spread out into organized crime rather like Chi-Town or NYC. For instance, they got government contracts at jacked up prices and delivered substandard services and construction. The mullahs are all about the moola -- its all about the money.
