Reply to "Keith Olbermann: Is Bush Reading Your Mail?"

Reading US mail by government agents is cumbersome, time consuming and usually a waste of resources. But, there are exceptions. Reading mail from overseas, without a warrant, is legal. During WWII, the FBI read the Duke and Duchess of Windsors mail routed thru the US to Bahamas, because of his close associate and sympathies with the Nazis. The Windsors knew of this and complained to no avail.

Reading of US internal mail, without a warrant, is legal, in emergencies only. Then, it must be reported to the FISA court within 48 hours, whether, anything is found or not.

More often, suspects will have a mail trace place on their mail to determine where their mail is coming from and where they are sending mail to -- a legal practice, if the mail is not opened.

But, opening mail is generally a waste of assets, and the government agents are spread thin as it is. Use of email thru one time free accounts or message embedded in public websites is more secure. The jehadis see to like porn sites for such messages.

If they read my mail, the poor sobs will be bored to death.
