"It is no longer appropriate to call this a jobless recovery," Chris Rupkey, chief economist of Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi said in a research note.

Looks like our economy is beginning to improve after all. Thank you Obama and your administration !
You are right seeweed. the title says it all.

216,000 jobs added; unemployment rate dips to 8.8%

Yahoo, the level they promised if they passed the stimulus. Of course, any good statitician will tell you that doesn't cover the real unemployment number, those who quit looking or are the long term unemployed.

216,000 jobs added, most in the private sector.
Whatever the rate really is, or really isn't , this is good news and we really needed some. I keep having to remember it took almost 10 years and a real war to get out of the Great Depression, and Roosevelt didn't have half the country pulling against him.
My personal opinion is we were almost there where we were in 1929 - '33. A prolonged drought like back then, and we may have actually gone there again. I am not willing to say we're totally over this , may not fully recover in my lifetime but I am willing to celebrate good news where ever I find it. I choose toremain an optimist.

Hey sea weed,
Rosevelt didn't do a thing to help get us out of the Great Depression. It was war and only war nthat pulled us out of that one. Sure
he had a bunch of gov't feel good work programs and some cozy fireside chats over the radio. Obama has three wars(one he got us into),
and still nothing. Sure you can claim private sector jobs on rise. That is what a fraction of
one%. Most areas are flat. Do you realize that the gov't jobs out # industrial jobs. With Obama in bed with the head of GE(the same GE that has shipped more jobs over seas than anyone
else), The same GE that made Billions and paid zero corp. tax. Not only that the gov't gave them additional billions. And that guys are job zar? It's time to realize our country is in deep trouble. We need to stop the spending that we don't have.
So please stop trying to claim a rock is a nugget of gold.

Keep Marching,
Skippy

You are wrong on so many levels I don't know where to start. The New Deal DID do quite a bit to end the Great Depression, although you are correct it took a real war (not what we are fighting now) to slam the lid on it. In fact, not even the war ended it completely, but the fact that most of the production capacity of everywhere in the world was virtually destroyed except for here in the US gave us quite a leg up after the war. However, the New Deal was a salvation in it's own right, and we are still today enjoying a lot of the fruit of it.
What you call "feel good work programs" sure felt good to the people who got those jobs and were able to feed their starving kids. When my dad went to work for TVA, as far as he was concerned, the Depression was OVER, and I'm sure the same went for all the employees of all the Alphabet programs.
In addition, the checks for businesses kept us out of another depression until Reagan started dismanteling them in the 80's. Bush finally did most of them in, and here we were a couple of years ago, almost back to 1933. All we needed was a prolonged drought and we'd be loading our jalopies and heading to California to pick apples.
If you think that the New Deal didn't help, maybe you need to go back to 7th grade and re-study that Civics class you slept through.
As to GE, etc not paying taxes, and jobs moving offshore, don't blame Obama, look no father than your local Republican Senator or Congressman who keeps voting to give tax breaks to companies who ship those jobs overseas. Obama is trying to change all that, but Boehner has opposed anything that would help our economy for 2 years, and still is.

Hey Seaweed
The only thing that can get us out of this is Business and Business jobs. Not Gov't jobs, we have enough of them. Rosevelt did everything he could to incumber business. Until we started to ship arms abroad dureing WW2 our country was going no where. You complain about Rep.Boehner. Who controlled both the
Senate and the House for more than the past two years? And didn't do a thing to help job creation. Wasted most of the time on Cap & Trade and the Socialist
Obama Care program that totaly will bankrupt this country. Even after we are able to reapeal this(and we will)it will cost the taxpayers Billons if not trillions.
And as far as seventh grade, I past it with strait A's. Back then we didn't have the understanding and all the facts we do now. So please check the more up-to-date facts of the 21st Centry. I wouldn't trust the schools these days as their teaching to rely on the gov't for all of your needs and to praise our savior Obama. And what about the Christmas ornimants on the White House Tree the Christmas before last featuring the picture of Chairman Mou. Even the Beatles realized this was a bad thing.

Keep Marching,
Skippy
