Do you not remember the case? One of the defense's best weapons was how poorly the evidence was handled at the scene. The whole thing was a mess. It wasn't the perfect murder because everyone knows he did it. The detectives job is to find and secure evidence so the prosecution can have a solid case. If a known killer walks free, who's fault is it?
