Actually, a volcano rising in LA is extremely unlikely.  The geology of that area is not conducive it.  Volcano usually occur in subduction zones, like Mt. Fuji in Japan, or over mantle plumes, like the Hawaiian Islands or the Yellowstone caldera.  

I went most of my life (for some reason) without ever realizing that there was a Yellowstone caldera or much less that there was even a slight possibility of an eruption of that zone.  IF, or when, that caldera blows then at least we won't have to hear anything about man made global warming or man made anything anymore.  I jest because such an event if if ever happened would be so catastrophic that I don't think the US could/would ever recover from it.  It would be equivalent to an astroid strike.
