Republican politicians know it's a problem, but they're scared of the base turning on them. The right wing media have lied to and manipulated the base for decades. Deep down inside the base supporters know this, too. They choose to misdirect their anger instead of focusing it on the ones that are lying to them.

Blinded by their hate for anything deemed 'liberal'. Hypocritical to the point of looking like a laughing stock to the rest of the world.
