Second, many don't give to the Salvation Army since it's a church just like the Methodist or Baptist or other entities that tell you their way to get to Heaven. 

Third, if you really want to help others this year, why not give to the Help Center or Room at the Inn? Yes, churches are affiliated with these endeavors, but it's not one church teaching a specific doctrine.

The Salvation Army provides services for all.  In WWII, if they hadn't helped provide for the POWs, many would not have survived, including my father.  The Red Cross didn't do it all.  FYI, I contributed to Room at the Inn.
