Firearms are tools -- specialized, even. Some shotguns are designed for trap and skeet target practice. Other shotguns to hunt goose and duck, while other shotguns to hunt quail and such. There are a number of extremely expensive target pistols and rifles, which would not be useful for hunting. And, others that are quite useful for hunting.
Can guns kill people -- not by themselves anymore than an axe can jump up and hack one to death, Both require a human to use them for such.
