Re: GOP senator: It's time to have 'adult conversation' about cutting safety net programs
Medicare and social security aren't safety nets. They are programs many paid into for over 40 years. I started at 16 years old. if someone figures how much they paid, transfer it into a 401. They will find that if 401 they could take 3% and have 2-3 times what they receive from social security. after paying into Medicare for over 40 years. There is still a payment. Government changes the rules. shouldn't they remain the same from when someone starts paying into it? once you start paying, you...

Re: UNA Football
UNA will still compete in the Gulf South Conference at least this year. Regarding the transfer of the young man from the University of Florida, UNA has for a long time brought in transfers with trouble from the past. In all honesty, some of them seem to change their ways in a new environment, and some of them don't change their ways in a new environment. Let's pray for them all. Did Mad American mean to say that he thinks UNA should go back to D-two ? or D-1 ? To win games, it's necessary to...

I have a Sony E-Reader and it holds a gazillion books but let me tell ya, invest in an Asus. We had it at the M&G, Storm to watch DF's web performance. The cost is about the same as a Kindle or E Reader plus, the ASUS has wireless Internet capability and the capacity of a computer. You can download e books on it and read them through Adobe. Much easier than having to download them on your computer and transfer them later. My recomendation is the ASUS!!! Asus

Re: Democrats on Iraqs WMDs...or Bush lied?
If the Patriot Act is unconstitutional, why has no one repealed it form either party? In the leaked wikipapaers, it mentioned WMD's being found. Many of our allies also agreed on WMD's. Given that Saddam had plenty of warning of an attack, really stupid on our part, he easily got rid of the evidence. We will never agree on this one, and history will take many years before the facts are all revealed. As for North Vietnam, there was a legitimate military to fight. The Vietcong were like the...

Re: Protect the Vote With Just Your Camera Phone.
Here are frequently asked questions, and answers, about Alabama's election on Tuesday, November 4. 1. Where do I vote? Alabama's secretary of state has set up a Web site (http://www.alabamavotes.gov) where people can put in their name and birthday. Then it will show the correct polling place. A voter may also call a county board of registrars. 2. When are the polls open? Alabama polling places are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. 3. What identification do I need at the polls? Voters need...

Those dissatisfied with their low-wage part-time jobs are continually told by those a little more secure in their employment that if they don’t like their situation, then develop some skills that an employer is willing to pay for. But, even if they do, their struggle to get paid what they are worth exposes the eternal tension between buyer and seller. You see, the employer, as buyer of labor and skills, wants to pay as little as possible. The employee, as seller of his labor and skills,...

Re: Reincarnation: No Religion Required
OK Best, since you are confused, lets go with this. A poster, Jimi, said that reincarnation had more evidence than God. And gave the impression he believed it existed. The only evidence is anecdotal. It would require a belief in the powers of a supernatural being to believe in reincarnation since one would be required for the 'transfer'. Unob said that Buddhism was an atheist religion. Buddhism is not necessary for the point, only explaining the idea of reincarnation. Now how does an atheist...

Aah, I see. Well, here's what I think, for what it's worth. The city FD's of Sheffield, Tuscumbia, and Muscle Shoals all need their own ambulances and EMT's. If the call is from within the city limits, that city takes it. In the county, the closest FD takes it. In Virginia, the FD ambulance services charge the patients insurance or Medicaid. This is what helps fund the fire departments and also helps with salaries and equipment. Why should all these private services be getting the bucks when...

Beginning in the early 1990s and continuing to this day, the Central Intelligence Agency, together with other U.S. government agencies, has utilized an intelligence-gathering program involving the transfer of foreign nationals suspected of involvement in terrorism to detention and interrogation in countries where -- in the CIA's view -- federal and international legal safeguards do not apply. Suspects are detained and interrogated either by U.S. personnel at U.S.-run detention facilities...

With the violence having subsided and no new jihadists coming to die, there is not much need in stationing the current number of combat troops in Iraq. There will be a need for Air Force personnel to remain since there is no Iraqi Air Force. There will also be a need for security forces for the protection of US assets, training personnel, and...

LBJ is NOT a good comparison. While true, to have ANY kind of celebration at LBJ's swearing in would have been terrible. We had just heard about the death of our president. No joy in Mudville at that time. If at no other time, a national show of celebration should be at the peaceful transfer of power in our country. Parker will be a great asset to una. To comptete on a championship level in d2 you have to have d1 talent. Parker is not the first d1 player to transfer to una with a checkered past. Most have come for a second chance and made the best of it. If parker has asperations to play pro ball, this is his last chance and i'am sure he will make the best of it.

Don't get me wrong, regarding a new Regional Health Center. I do though feel that the construction of a new center should not mean that Muscle Shoals Hospital and/or Helen Keller has to close.
