It would be hilarious (and fatal) to watch you stumble into a group of the people you think are such wonderful people. No matter how much you cry that you are on their side, they would slice you open like a watermelon and parade your old carcass down main street.

Actually no, ONO, Sarah never was in the equation. I like her personally, but don't want her as president. As much as you like to think I worship her, I don't. I think ferrell is going for street smarts vs book smarts. (If not, my apologies) Books smarts and no experience gives you a thinker, not a leader. I think you're partly right. Both sides have an unrealistic idea of how it was in the past. Is it any wonder that we all tend to remember the good instead of the bad when thinking about past relationships, childhood memories, etc.? We tend to sentimentalize those memories. And we have unrealistic expectations about the future as well, which is the point. Achieving the American dream isn't really possible anymore. It was possible in the past because there was a time when hard work would earn...

Buttercup= Everything you're pointing out is a result of government intervention in the markets. Government subsidized loans can take the blame for that one. Bad monetary policy. Nixon ruined this in '71. Both were government facilitated. I challenge you to find a "big business" that has really screwed the little guy without government help/interference. Not a quote here, but my summation: In the '20's regulation was lax and the big industries took advantage of cheap labor and high productivity to concentrate wealth at the top of the food chain. While I take at face value that this report is true, in no way does this affect the decline of the middle class. There is a rapidly shrinking middle class in America due to the policies which were implemented by Reagan in destroying the unions. This was further compounded during the Clinton administration with the passage of NAFTA. And the tax breaks under the Bush II administration even further made it more profitable for American companies to produce goods abroad. This isn't about welfare...

My question has not changed. I'm not giving Enron executives or Wall Street executives a pass. They deserve every bit of the blame they get. I'm simply stating that those are not good examples of a lack of regulation, as they are in demonstrably, heavily regulated industries. If you want to make a case for regulation, you have to start with unregulated industries and then prove regulation made the customers of those industries better off.

The recently approved 2008 budget is a better one than in years past because of sacrifices, said Mayor Billy Don Anderson. Anderson said the $7,163,314 budget includes $1,000 a year raise for all city employees, a 4 percent raise for retired city employees and a $50,000 appropriation to the school board. He said the city also was able to put back a little money in reserve. "The city and our employees have made sacrifices over the last two years, and because of those sacrifices we were able...

GREAT POST TSC!! I'm impressed. A couple of interesting things I noted: It mentioned male prostitutes, not female. Does that mean mean that prostitution is accepted? It mentions that greed, slanders and swindlers are in the same boat with the sexually immoral. Seems to me, some of the gay bashing we are seeing are by some who seem to possess the other traits. Probably a good reason for us not to judge.

I believe he is talking about city employees such as firefighters, police officers, street dept. employees etc. who have either retired or quit. He isn't talking about school employees. The city council doesn't have any say in who stays or goes as far as teachers are concerned. That is up to the school board.
