I am sure Cindy is perfectly lovely. Michelle Obama did not have the luxury of independent wealth. She worked hard, pursued a career with little help, and overcame incredible odds and has done quite well. Born on January 17, 1964, Michelle Robinson was raised in a one-bedroom apartment on Chicago's South Shore. Of note is that she shared a "bedroom" with her brother, but it wasn't much of a bedroom. It was actually the living room with a divider down the middle. Michelle's father died in...

Now you’re making it a race issue. When Condoleezza Rice was mentioned before as the American dream all I heard from the forum members on the left was put downs and how inadequate she was. Ms. Rice is more qualified to be President than Obama or McCain. She is someone I would vote for and support for President. And good for Michelle for doing something postive with her life even though she has never been proud to be an American until recently. How she feels about America is her prerogative.

Ah yes, the Quakers: In 1657, a boatload of Quaker missionaries from England landed on Long Island. One of them, Robert Hodgson, drew large crowds to his meetings. He was arrested, imprisoned, flogged and treated very severely. At last some of the Dutch colonists interceded on his behalf and secured his unconditional release. Many continued to respond to the Friends message in spite of a firm edict issued against it by Governor Peter Stuyvesant. Finally on December 27, 1657, the citizens of...
