Have you ever accessed and participated in the Internets Bulletin Board system that many call USENET or Newsgroups?

I see many on this forum that seem to be regulars and enjoy participation in various dialogs and on numerous subjects. Many though don't realize or know that there are also many newsgroups under the name USENET also called electronic bulletin boards. One of which is local for the Shoals but I hardly see many contributing. The board is on USENET and called alabama.shoals.general

In order to access these you have to subscribe to that particular bulletin board and access it through a newsgroup service. Google (groups.google.com) provides free access and if you have comcast, bellsouth, or charter you also can access them using either Microsoft Outlook, Outlook express, or Entourage on the Mac. Some people avoid it because they don't know hot to set it up so I was just curious and wanted to ask a question. Besides the local Shoals bulletin board there are newsgroups for most any topic you can think of also be it genealogy, recipes, cooking, painting, building, contractors etc. . . etc . . .
