Recent by elections in Iran have put opposition candidates in a majority of offices. Their radical president has apparently lost the support of the voters.
Does this say that Iran is an oppressive regime, or does it indicate a genuine democracy is in operation.
In Iran, unlike the USA, there is a religious test for candidates. Any person Seeking election or appointment to a public office must be a Muslim. No Christian, Jew, or Hindu can run, ONLY Muslims. The population is almost entirely Muslim, though there is no mandate for practices including the Burkha and Hajib. There are purely religious laws, a Friend of Mine got arrested and deported because he kissed his wife in public in Tehran. His reaction, and it was a big deal, "Well, when in Rome. . .
