This is my opinion, in order to compete with other cities, we are going to have to have incentives to lure jobs here, but it must be trusted to the right people and not wasted on finding retail and restaurant jobs. In order to keep the entertainment here we are going to have to build a Civic Center and if this requires an additional 1/4th percent tax, it is going to have to happen. Now, what are we giving up 3/4 ths. percent is .75 per $100, or $7.50 per $1,000. Not much to give up to see that the future of our children and their children can have a future to live and work here. Now, if the gas prices go up from $2.09 to $3.00 everybody would complain and there is nothing you could do to stop it. I myself hate new taxes, just like anyone else, but we are never going anywhere if don't all pitch in the few pennies, or 3/4 ths of a penney to ensure that we move ahead.
