I knew Bob Ford. He and I served together in the 311th Fighter-Bomber Squadron at Osan, Korea (K55). He died in the fiery crash of an F-86F jet. And, just as I recall where I was and what I was doing when Kennedy was assassinated -- I always remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I learned that Bob Ford had died. Bill
Bill, I'm sure there were many soldiers from Missisippi & Alabama that died defending our country.
Just exactly why did you feel the need to mention this one? And what's the point of his granddaughter being a Forensic Scientist? I'm not impressed. You really should see a doctor.
Hi Chick,
Why do I choose to speak of and honor Bob Ford? Because I knew him, because I was impressed with the kind of man he was, and, because in the year I worked on building a memorial web site for him -- I have come to know his family very well.
Bob Ford was a very special man -- as well as being a talented jet fighter-bomber pilot. And, he had plans to spend his life serving America in our military -- until his life was cut short.
On Christmas Day 2009, his widow, Libby, went home to be with the Lord -- and Bobby. But, his brother who still lives in Alabama; his daughter, son, and grandchildren are still living in Alabama -- and his sister-in-law lives in California. All are dear Friends now -- because of my relationship with Bob Ford. So, I am blessed.
Why am I impressed with his granddaughter, Laura? Well, Bob, a graduate of the U. S. Naval Academy, was killed after his tour of duty in Korea was up -- but, he was waiting an assignment to the University of Illinois where he was going to work on his master's degree in engineering -- on his way to a Ph.d -- and his goal was to stay in the military and serve our country through his engineering expertise.
His death cut that short. However, his granddaughter, Laura, picked up the baton and has taken it to her Ph.d. -- and is serving us through her work as a Forensic Scientist. I am sure you are aware that many crimes might not be solved -- if not for Forensic Science. Yes, Laura is continuing to carry the torch that was snuffed out when her grandfather died in that plane crash.
This is why I honor Bob Ford and his family on Veteran's Day. He gave all -- that you and I might have the freedom to disagree on this forum. Praise God for such people. You may make snide remarks about them -- but, I suggest you stop thinking of your own petty little world and thank Bob Ford and many others like him who have died for your freedom.
God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,
Bill
