"President Obama said that he will delay his vacation and keep Congress in session until the passage of his desired payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits extension -- two proposals that Obama said would create more jobs than the Keystone XL pipeline that his administration recently delayed.

"I would not ask anyone to do something I'm not willing to do myself," Obama said when asked if he would go on vacation while keeping Congress in Washington D.C. "We are going to stay here as long as it takes [to get unemployment extended and pass the payroll tax cut]."

As Obama called for passage of those bills, he also responded to a recent Republican push to require him to approve the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada. "However many jobs might be generated by a Keystone pipeline," he said, "they're going to be a lot fewer than the jobs that are created by extending the payroll tax cut and extending unemployment insurance."

Recently, National Review published an article questioning whether Obama was evil, or simply incompetent.  They concluded incompetent.  The above article further substantiates their claim.

The man simply doesn't understand the idea that taxes spent is not wealth creation. Or, that work such as done on the pipeline and subsequent refining are not only wealty creation, but contribute to government revenue.  And, lessen the burden of government expense -- unemployment payments.

takes a person with a small brain to not see that we have Idiot running our country, he has also made us look weak by writing the Fuzzy faced one a letter wanting to set up direct talks with them on the Gulf of Hormuz, they offer to send him a small pink Replica of the Drone we gave them, the whole World knows that we are weak militarily, and he cuts more from the Defense Budget.

I have read enough of jimihendrix posts to not get excited at anything  he says, usually a one liner that  means nothing.

The  "20,000 jobs" claim is BOGUS.  A detailed analysis of the economic potential of this pipeline was performed by Cornell University.  Their conclusion:

"Employment Potential from KXL is Little to None; Decision should be based on other factors."

Principal points in the paper:

» The industry’s US jobs claims are linked to a $7 billion KXL project budget.
However, the budget for KXL that will have a bearing on US jobs figures is
dramatically lower—only around $3 to $4 billion. A lower project budget means
fewer jobs.
» The project will create no more than 2,500-4,650 temporary direct construction
jobs for two years, according to TransCanada’s own data supplied to the State
Department.
» The company’s claim that KXL will create 20,000 direct construction and
manufacturing jobs in the U.S is not substantiated.
» There is strong evidence to suggest that a large portion of the primary material
input for KXL—steel pipe—will not even be produced in the United States. A
substantial amount of pipe has already been manufactured in advance of pipeline
permit issuance.
» The industry’s claim that KXL will create 119,000 total jobs (direct, indirect, and
induced) is based on a flawed and poorly documented study commissioned by
TransCanada (The Perryman Group study). Perryman wrongly includes over $1
billion in spending and over 10,000 person-years of employment for a section
of the Keystone project in Kansas and Oklahoma that is not part of KXL and has
already been built.
» KXL will not be a major source of US jobs, nor will it play any substantial role at
all in putting Americans back to work. Even if the Perryman figures were accurate,
and all of the workers for the next phase of the project were hired immediately, the
US seasonally adjusted unemployment rate would remain at 9.1%—exactly where it
is now.
» KXL will divert Tar Sands oil now supplying Midwest refineries, so it can be sold at
higher prices to the Gulf Coast and export markets. As a result, consumers in the
Midwest could be paying 10 to 20 cents more per gallon for gasoline and diesel
fuel. These additional costs (estimated to total $2–4 billion) will suppress other
spending and will therefore cost jobs.
» Pipeline spills incur costs and therefore kill jobs. Clean-up operations and permanent
pipeline spill damage will divert public and private funds away from productive
economic activity. In 2010 US pipeline spills and explosions killed 22 people, released
over 170,000 barrels of petroleum into the environment, and caused $1 billion dollars
worth of damage in the United States.
» Rising carbon emissions and other pollutants from the heavy crude transported
by Keystone XL will also incur increased health care costs. Emissions also increase
both the risk and costs of further climate instability.
» By helping to lock in US dependence on fossil fuels, Keystone XL will impede
progress toward green and sustainable economic renewal and will have a chilling
effect on green investments and green jobs creation. The green economy has
already generated 2.7 million jobs in the US and could generate many more.

House Republicans have called Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to testify as early as next week on the  Obama administration’s decision to reject the Keystone XL pipeline.

Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton formally sent a request to Clinton to come and  testify at a hearing as early as next Wednesday, the day after President Barack Obama gives his State of the Union address  before a joint session of Congress.

I have to disagree. There is no way he could just be incompenent with so many advisors, politians  and lawyers surrounding him. I think he has an agenda, that if elected again, will become strikingly clear.

Green built buildings are costing more to maintain and are creating whats called sic buildings, during construction they have to have a pressure test and during this test the building must maintain a certain amount of pressure created by using high velocity fans. Usually two to three years after completion you have to go in and do total mold remediation, simply because the building is sealed so tight it cant breath in fresh air. Even bringing in an outside source of fresh air don't usually help.

Modern buildings have HVAC systems that use computer controlled air handlers to induce a preset number of air changes per hour.  In our building we have energy recovery heat exchangers to reclaim the energy from the exhaust air and use it to treat the incoming fresh air.  We also set and maintain relative humidity with a separate air handler that is tied into the main air trunks with duct valves.  This sort of system has been standard in other parts of the country for a decade and I cant believe it is not common practice to install on any new commercial construction.

Well Jimi, why don't you explain why Obama would vote down this pipeline project. I'm sure you can do it in one sentence.

Obama's original stand was to wait until the environmental study was done so that he could make an informed judgement. Congressional Republicans have forced him in the spending bill (which had nothing to do with the pipeline except this part) to make the decision before the study was done for the sake of being able to lie and spin this for political points. You are falling into their sceme of lieing and distorting.

We should wait and see what the environmental impact study shows, he may still approve it, but I still think it is a bad idea.

BTW, you do realize, don't you, that the steal for the proposed pipeline wiould have come from India and not American steel mills ?  Indian pipe has proven to fail in past pipelines.

So, back to point, what's in it for our country ? - not much in the way of jobs, imported inferior steel, finished product leaving the country while the toxic byproducts stay here , and maybe the most serious, the threat to the Ogallola aquifer . In other words, we take all the risk and all we get for it in return is a bunch of toxic gunk.

The oil companies, however would make billions   The Oil greezed palms of the Congressional Republicans would get millions.

So, the real quiestion is. why would YOU be for it ?

In truth, seeweed has no idea as to the quality of steel that would be used on the pipeline.  The workforce required to complete this project would be substantial, regardless of how the libs try to downplay it.  The risk of contaminating an aquifer is small and well understood.  It's none of my business how much the oil companies make as Obama hasn't converted us over to socialism just yet.

Big Hoss it's just a vacation delay, I think Air Force One is in for maintenance from the Christmas vacation and the treasury needs a few more weeks to raise another 5 million to cover another vacation. And we don't need no stinkin' jobs we need unemployment extensions, why you want people to work, do you have any idea how many work related injuries work causes, all of them. By just supplying everyone with a weekly check we could completely avoid work relate injury cost to Obama care see its simple, right ?

I could, but you wouldn't understand it. Where do you get this "vote down"? He doesn't "vote".

More lies.

THe Keystone XL is redundant.  Other pipelines from Canada are operating at less than 50% capacity. The Keystone Phase I, which opened in June 2010, zigzags across across Canada then south into North Dakota continuing to Steele City, Kansas, and then east into Illinois. Phase II, which opened February 2011, extended the pipeline from Steele City south in a straight shot to a major pipeline hub in Cushing,Oklahoma fairly close to Texas refineries.

The Canadian oil is already here.  The need for another pipeline is strictly political.
