I live in the Florence City area and I would be for that if it would directly go to education to help our schools. Another good way to help the schools is to buy a "Helping Schools" car tag. You get to choose which school you would like to help. They could tax liquor and tobacco products extra to help also in leu of taxing property or sales tax.
Both are excellent ideas, however, Lauderdale County is dry and I honestly dont know if that will ever change. The county sales tax for Lauderdale is 4 cents and has been for a long time if I am not mistaken. The money needs to go into the local boards budget to help keep teacher units in our systems. The biggest problem for many of our schools is overcrowded classrooms. Teachers cannot provide the type education our kids deserve when they have classes with 30+ kids.
I don't live in Lauderdale Co. but I am opposed to ANY taxes more than what we are paying now. The people of Alabama Voted ; No lottery to support schools. Obviously they don't think we need more money for the school system. I say to heck with them. NO ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR THE SCHOOLS. Lets give the state what they want and deserve. Don't tax me to get it now.
