Hi to my Forum Friends,
Today, I would like to give a really big "ATTA GIRL!" to TimesDaily City Editor, Sherhonda Allen, for having the Christian faith and courage to speak about her Christian faith in print. I know that many of our non-believing Friends will start throwing rocks, saying, "How dare she speak FOR God when she is doing her job for a newspaper! Isn't she supposed to be objective, taking neither one side or the other?"
That would be analogous to a person who does not like the color "red" telling her that, because he/she does not like that bright color; she should not wear red while at work. After all, it offends this persons sense of sight; therefore it should be banned in all work places. So, Sherhonda, you should always wear on white, grey, or black -- no bright colors, no pastels -- you MUST be objective so that you do not offend those dear folks.
My Friends, it does not work that way. A Christian believer is "clothed" in the righteousness of Jesus Christ; it is not something we can put on and take off -- as the public desires. It is our faith; and it is not disposable to fit public opinion.
It would be okay if she had written an article which supported your "lack of faith in God" -- but, because it supports her strong "faith in God" -- it offends you. Get a life! Preferably a Christian life.

SINCE WE ARE JUSTIFIED BY FAITH

It's all about faith.
I'm a Christian, so that means I have unquestioning belief that Jesus Christ is the son of God, that he died to atone for our sins and that he rose from his grave after his physical death, which is called the resurrection.
I accept the fact that my belief is too much for many people to accept. Every excuse is cited for not believing, including the popular: There's no proof.
But faith is not about always having proof. If it were, it wouldn't be called faith.
I also accept that many people I honestly like do not believe as I do - some don't believe in God at all. Others express ambivalence - not committing to following any religion, though they do acknowledge God. It doesn't stop me from liking them and caring about them. Some nights I've lain in bed worrying about them, though God's word says we who believe in him are not to worry - an edict that's extremely difficult for me, a born worrier.
Caring about others who don't believe as I believe doesn't change how I practice my faith, nor does it water down my faith. When someone uses the name of Jesus Christ as an exclamation, or a curse, it still offends me no matter how many times I hear it on television or out of the mouths of people I like.
I don't just think about my faith when I'm offended or on a day like today, Easter, which is one of the most important observances in the Christian faith. It's with me all the time, on weak faith days and strong ones.
Because it's Easter, there have been published reports, debates and pontificating about Christianity going on all week. The issue of belief in God sets people off in good ways and bad ways just as it did back in the days before Jesus ever walked the earth.
I've come to realize that we, Christians and non, are as stiff-necked as the Israelites of Exodus who had physical proof that God was among them and it still was not enough to convince many of them to have an unwavering faith.
I've been called all kinds of an idiot for believing as I do, but there it is - I'm not going to change because someone decides it's politically incorrect to practice my faith.
Because I work in the media, I'm often privy to many opinions - some even from people who say they are Christian - that would encourage me to water down my belief to make it more palatable, less offensive to other people. I honestly never hear this request directed to anyone but Christians. What kind of Christian faith would I have if I would be content to water it down for anyone or for any reason?
Observing Easter and all it means is important to me. It's good to share it with those I care about - Christians and non-Christians alike.

My thoughts on this: Thank you, Sherhonda, for having the Christian faith and courage to declare your Christian faith.
"ATTA GIRL!"
God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,
Bill
