What if ???

"What if??" what? I don't get the point you are trying to make with that question/statement.

From reading the article, it doesn't appear to fall under the definition of "Hate Crime" - Hate crimes (also known as bias-motivated crimes) occur when a perpetrator targets a victim because of his or her perceived membership in a certain social group, usually defined by racial group, religion, sexual orientation, disability, class, ethnicity, nationality, age, gender, gender identity, or political affiliation.

Unless the cops were Duke fans and beat the dude up because he was a Maryland fan.
No, I don't see this as a hate crime, but this is clearly "police brutality" and as usual, they lied in the report to try an cover their behinds. This is the kind of thing that I protest on here all the time. Outrageous, when will this madness stop? This type of behavior by police officers is happening all over the country, NO ONE IS SAFE. Wake up people, we must protest these type of actions and must demand that officers who act like this are prosecuted and sentenced the max!!!!

The department has already suspended one individual, and initiated a full investigation, based solely on the video.

When, and if, proven criminally culpable, they should be punished according to law. But, I think it's a little early for a firing squad, though.

What's to prove? They attacked and assaulted him. Warrants should already be issued.

And warrants may already be issued...but even accused cops have a right to a day in court, to face their accusers, to present a defense and question statements and evidence, and are to be considered innocent until proven guilty.

I agree. I don't know the details, so all of what I'm about to say may have already happened.

If I were video taped assualting someone like that, I would most likely be charged, arrested, etc, and then have my day in court. This should be no different, and these men should have already been charged and processed (if they haven't been).

Normally I defend cops but wow this is just bad. But to say "This type of behavior by police officers is happening all over the country, NO ONE IS SAFE." A little dramatic don't ya think?

NOT dramatic at all, go to youtube and search police brutality, there are hundreds of video's from all over the country, I'm not saying all cops are bad, but the ones that are make it that much harder for the guys doing a great job. It's just unaccceptable, like sassy kims said "everyone deserves their day in court" and shouldn't have to get the crap beat out of them { an assumption of guilty rather that innocence ) before that day.

"Because the officers on the video were in full riot gear, they could not be readily identified, but authorities are looking into who was on duty that night and where officers were at the time to determine who was involved."
If you just read a little further down.

Admittedly, I'm not a detective or anything, but I'd guess the officer who wrote the police report was involved, and possibly named, or could name, the others involved. Seems to be one of the more simple things to "look into."

"NO ONE IS SAFE" is dramatic. Even if there were 100's of credible police brutality videos there are millions of encounters that are not excessive. I find mostly foreign videos with a few relevant American agencies involved on youtube. I won't make excuses for bad cops but I won't condemn them all either.

we'll agree to disagree on this one. I am outraged when I see this type of behaviour by police officers. police officers should be role models for the general population, with the highest of morals and ethics. the bad apples are a disgrace to the profession and should be dealt with swiftly and harshly.
