You'll notice that this happened at a charter school. Charter schools typically don't have the same kind of requirements for hiring teachers that standard public schools do. In some states, teachers at charter schools don't even have to have a teaching degree in order to teach. I've never heard of anything like this happening at a regular public school. It makes me wonder what kind of background checks do they do (if any) on teachers at charter schools. How safe are charter schools kids?

What planet do you live on? You can find instances of bad teachers in public schools beating, assaulting, sexually abusing students, etc. on a daily basis. Bad teachers are everywhere just as there are good teachers everywhere. The main point is that the bad teachers need to be stripped of their teaching positions.

They cant get rid of them because of the unions. Don't get me wrong we needed unions at one time, but now most are ridiculous in thier demands.
That kid DID deserve a good one...but behind the proverbial woodshed by his dad. Oh wait, he probably doesn't have one. Until parents teach the children right from wrong and hold them accountable for their actions, kids will continue to beat up disabled people and send teachers off the deep end. Not taking up for this teacher in any way, her behavior was unacceptable, but I am willing to bet many teachers have fantasized about doing this very thing.
