I read everything, from the classics to science fiction. I love John Steinbeck, I also love Larry Niven. But my very favorite books to read (and re-read) are by Jane Austen.

Okay, SOME of my favorite fiction authors

horror - Dean Koontz, early Stephen King

mystery - Jonathon King, Nevada Barr

fantasy/sci-fi - Marion Zimmer Bradley (Darkover series)

sci-fi - Just started reading a book by a new-to-me author Gage Baker called 'The Empress of Mars' (the Empress is a bar, btw); Timothy Zahn

for fun - Charlain Harris (psychics, vampires, werewolves, oh my!)

Others include David Morrell, Douglas Prescott/Lincoln Childs (seperately and together)

I actually had a MUCH longer list of authors (I forget names easily) for trips to the library, but someone spilled soda all over it. Guess I I'm gonna have to start over.
Hi all,

Some of my favorite authors in no particular order:

John Steinbeck
Ernest Hemingway
Mark Twain
Bruce Catton - A Stillness At Appomattox Trilogy
Carl Sandburg - Abraham Lincoln Trilogy
Gore Vidal - Lincoln, A Novel
Doris Kearns Goodwin - Team Of Rivals, The Political Genius Of Abraham Lincoln
Jeff & Michael Shaara - great Civil War historical novels
Kathleen & Michael Gear -- The People Series - Historical novels of the Native Americans
Jean Auel - Earth Children Series - great historical novels of the people of the primeval world
W.E.B. Griffin - great historical novels spanning World War 2 through the Vietnam War
John Jakes - one of the best historical novel writers on American history
Frank E. Peretti - for his sort of historical/spiritual books about the spiritual realm
Frank E. Peretti -- for his landmark book, Tilly, which gave us all a new perspective on abortion
Dr. Henry Morris - commentaries on Genesis, Revelation, etc.
Dr. Tim LaHaye - Left Behind Series plus many others
Lee Strobel - The Case For Faith, The Case For Christ, etc.
C.S. Lewis - too numerous to count

But, my all time favorite author is God -- for His masterpiece, the Bible.

God bless, have a wonderful, blessed day,

Bill

David, David Sedaris is the only author I know who can make me laugh out loud all alone while reading...I could read his stuff every day over and over and it would still make me laugh.

Have you ever listened to any of his audiobooks? Talk about making a long trip fun! We almost wrecked from laughing so hard.

No, I have never listened to ANY audiobooks. I don't know why, in my mind I am thinking an audiobook would not be as good as actually holding the book and reading the written word?

He is definitely funny. His shopping trips with his sister, the neighbor and the sewing machine...well I could go on and on and could nver tell what is my favorite story of his. What is your favorite?

Thank you and yes, I did mean it to be (glad someone caught that).

I also enjoy Robin Cook's medical/science-fiction but so many of his "fictional" novels mirror things that either have happened or could happen in reality, especially with his distaste for managed care and where it could lead...

David L...I'll have to read some of David Sedaris' works, I could use a good laugh between the macabre novels that I seem to frequent!
