"We're not winning, we're not losing."

- President George W. Bush, in a striking semi-reversal from his pre-election statement, "Absolutely, we're winning."

Q Are we winning?

THE PRESIDENT: Absolutely, we're winning.

Q Mr. President, less than two months ago at the end of one of the bloodiest months in the war, you said, "Absolutely we're winning." Yesterday you said, "We're not winning, we're not losing." Why did you drop your confident assertion about winning?

THE PRESIDENT: My comments -- the first comment was done in this spirit: I believe that we're going to win; I believe that -- and by the way, if I didn't think that, I wouldn't have our troops there. That's what you got to know. We're going to succeed.

Bush will ask for more than $100 billion extra for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, on top of the $70 billion already OK'd for this fiscal year.

That's 50% more than originally expected for Fiscal Year 2007!

Since September 11, 2001, Congress had spent over $500,000,000,000 (500 Billion) in Iraq & Afghanistan. An extra $100 billion for terror-related expenses will put it over the top.

The Vietnam War only cost $549 billion, adjusted for inflation.

Gen. Peter J. Schoomaker, Army Chief of Staff, warned Congress last week that the active-duty Army "will break" under the strain of today's war-zone rotations.

Former secretary of state Colin L. Powell, a retired chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said on CBS News's "Face the Nation" on Sunday that "the active Army is about broken."

Democrats said at the beginning that more troops were needed. John Kerry proposed increasing troop strength by 40,000 during his presidential campaign against Bush.

Bush pooh-poohed him.

This country is being ran by a bunch of **** Idiots beginning at the top (especially that Idiot from Texas who refuses to admit what this war was really about. (DADDY BUSH)
No.2 That Number 1 Idiot (Bush)is spending this country into BANKRUPTCY, and or OBLIVIAN, (can you say DEPRESSION) Can you imagine another $99.7 Billion going to Iraq? and over 10 billion of that to TRAIN those lazy people who HATE OUR GUTS, and will use that training on us in the in. How **** stupid are we? **** STUPID! Hell put that money into that so called FAILED "Social Security" program to help our Elderly. Why not just put it into the Infrastruture of this country that needs a real tune up.
These Idiots in Washinigton promise lower TAXES, (Yea right!) but then add some kind of tax back on at the State level or by adding at the Local government level, ie;sales taxes, adding point's to your home so you can pay higher home owners taxes

They (Mujahedeen) broke RUSSIA in Afghanistan during that fiasco (We even HELPED those people fighting Russia with money, our tax dollars, and weapons)and then the Good ole USA with help from that other Idiot Reagan bailed Russia's ass out of BANKRUPTCY, Now does that make sense? Who do you think is going to bail us out? No ONE.
And on top of all this they (Washington)Send our work (JOB'S)(CAN YOU SAY NAFTA, CAFTA) to other countries so we don't have any high paying jobs for our workers,( We NEED THESE FACTORIES FOR OUR OWN DEFENSE) WE'RE Really STUPID to vote these so called Educated IDIO'TS back into office to sell us out like this. (HELLO!!!)WAKE UP AMERICA! ITS YOUR COUNTRY TO FIGHT TO KEEP, BECAUSE WASHINGTON DONT GIVE A **** HOW THEY SELL US OUT, THEY'LL JUST SELL US OUT TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER and CHINA looks like the likely source to do Just that.
Bush, in his infinite wisdom, must feel he is more qualified to judge the condition of the war than General Schoomaker and Colin Powell. He doesn't listen to advisors; he must think he is all-knowing. I can't believe there was a day when I actually defended this man.

Well, here's some more advice for you to ignore, Mr. President. If this 100% Southern Christian is ready to serve you an eviction notice, I imagine it's nearly unanimous.

Grats on showing our enemies how weak America really is.

Dito. Further, good thing we fought WW2 65 years ago with that generation rather than the generation we have today. Ever since the Vietnam era, it has been "support the troops, not the war!!" What an oxy-moron.

The media has an agenda, and they are loving it that we are "losing" right now. Esp. when 85%+ of the media are registered Democrap....

Hmmm...no wonder Klinton would cut and run from anything hard. All that did was make America look weak...and we are now looking weak because of the media and the constant barrage. War is he!! people. I have been there, done that. People die in war, simple as that.

Again, glad we didn't have today's generation fighting WW2...we would have lost before we would have fired a shot.

Don't know you but seems that you have served in the military at some point. I like your thought though. We are at war and people die in war, and the casualties to date are nothing of past wars. People in America can not seem to stomach war anylonger. When you sign up to serve in the military, you take an oath to defend your country, even if it means your life and while the loss is sad they knew the chance when they entered. I've had family members serve in Vietnam, WWII etc.. and this war is small in casualities, I also have family who have served in this war. And I am proud of them for defending our country!! Did we forget 9/11 and the thousands of lives lost due to terrorist? Do we really want to lay down and play dead now? If we do, we just might as well wright them a welcome card to our country. However, Bush does need to step back and listen to his advisors more.
Trying to see everything from all perspectives.....
I think we misjudged a lot of things in this war, and one we totally overlooked is the ferocity with which these people fight...Life has no meaning...war is a way of life...we will never win this war militarily...even if we struck some kind of deal for peace, we would be there from now on to keep it stable...we lost in Vietnam because we tried to democratize a country that could not survive under a democratic form of government...Iraq is no different in that respect and in many others..
Just wanted to comment on those talking about WW2. We really were at war then, the American people were asked (even required) to sacrifice for the sake of victory. Sugar, rubber, shoes and a lot of what we take for granet now were rationed to support the war effort. Even the auto plants were converted to make the war machine. Our bombers destroyed their cities, and we were actually there to win and get out.

What we now call war is what was called in the early 50's "police action".
Korea, Vietnam and now Iraq were fought as "politically correct wars".
Now this is not unique to either political party, as most of these police actions have spanned presidents of both parties.

I believe the war in Iraq is unjust. but we are there because the "Decider" decided and we now must deal with the situation.

The concept of waging war by destroying the cities, towns, food supply, etc of the enemy was concieved by Sherman in the War Between the States. Now , every true Southerner still hates him, but he did in fact contribute to the end of that conflict, and that still may be the only way to really win a gorilla war.

I still say we should just get out now !. We were told that if we got out of Vietnam the whole world would collapse like dominoes, but that country stabilized in short order. Iraq may come to peace as well.

However, if we are going to stay there, we should bomb to distruction every city where there are people shooting at US troops. In other words, really go to war to win. Take the money saved, and try to help the Gulf Coast rebuild, not Bagdad.
"When you sign up to serve in the military, you take an oath to defend your country..."

Those of us with military experience can attest that we do not take an oath to defend our country.

All military personnel, enlisted and officer alike, take an oath (with no significant difference), (and which I have never forsworn) as follows:

"I, _(state your name)_, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."
(Title 10, US Code; Act of 5 May 1960 replacing the wording first adopted in 1789, with amendment effective 5 October 1962.)

The officers' oath is as follows:

"I, _(state your name)_ (SSAN), having been appointed an officer in the Army of the United States, as indicated above in the grade of _____ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic, that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservations or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office upon which I am about to enter; So help me God."
(DA Form 71, 1 August 1959, for officers.)

Does the United States have domestic enemies?

You bet your sweet bippie that we do!

If you think about it, the Secretary of Defense is NOT an officer. The "SECDEF" is a civilian.

We have taken an oath to FIRST protect the Constitution, and secondarily to obey the orders of the President, and officers.

The DoD states that "The Secretary of Defense is the principal defense policy advisor to the President and is responsible for the formulation of general defense policy and policy related to all matters of direct and primary concern to the DoD, and for the execution of approved policy. Under the direction of the President, the Secretary exercises authority, direction, and control over the Department of Defense."

Policy... not procedure.

While the matter may be lost on some, it is a vast difference to others.
I am sick to death of hearing that because I think the reasons behind entering Iraq are stupid that this means I am weak or my country is weak. We were lied to so that Bush could finish what his Daddy did not finish. Wow, I can admit the truth. Guess I better curl up in a corner now and cry. Please.

Furthermore, if you must go to war, GO TO WAR, none of this mamsey pamsey politically correct decision-making. As someone here in this forum once said, make a parking lot out of that country and move on. You can't reason with those nuts. There will NEVER be peace in that region. Level it or get out of there.

Bring your pillow.
It seems it all started when he lost his umlaut (also known as a diaeresis, not to be confused with diaphoresis)!

But guess what?!

I found it!

ö ¨ Ÿ ÿ ë Ö Ü ä Ä ü

And, we found the tilde ~ Ñ ñ, and several other diacritical marks, including the acuté and gravè accents, the çedilla, the câret, the æ & œ ligatures, the inverted exclamation point¡ and question mark¿, and a host of others, including the Euro, Yen, the Greek and Cyrillic alphabet, and a host of other really cool things, all hiding together!

ŐŻ
ŪŘ
Ĺij ų ħ ʼn ț Ø Ð Ő lj Dz ɐ ɖʈ

However, the Latin lower case 't' with a retroflex hook is conspiçuously absent, as are the lower case gamma, lower glottal stop with stroke, the phi, lower case upsilon, and a host of other truly useful letters.

Yet, the unified ideograph character 8634 蘴 for Tamil is present, as are 8764 虴, 86A8 蚨, and ﭧthe Arabic tteh final form, שׁthe Hebrew shin with shindot, ﭾthe Arabic tcheheh isolated form, ﰌArabic ligature teh with hah isolated form, カthe halfwidth Katakana ka, Дthe Cyrillic de, жzhe, Юcapital Yu, small фef, љsmall lje, and the lower case Greek ξxi, was found, along with the ζlower case zeta, while the lower case beta remains mysteriously missing.

What a hodgepodge, eh?
Al Qaeda Sends a Message to Democrats
December 22, 2006 2:28 PM

Brian Ross and Hoda Osman Report:

Al Qaeda has sent a message to leaders of the Democratic party that credit for the defeat of congressional Republicans belongs to the terrorists.

In a portion of the tape from al Qaeda No. 2 man, Ayman al Zawahri, made available only today, Zawahri says he has two messages for American Democrats.

"The first is that you aren't the ones who won the midterm elections, nor are the Republicans the ones who lost. Rather, the Mujahideen -- the Muslim Ummah's vanguard in Afghanistan and Iraq -- are the ones who won, and the American forces and their Crusader allies are the ones who lost," Zawahri said, according to a full transcript obtained by ABC News.

Zawahri calls on the Democrats to negotiate with him and Osama bin Laden, not others in the Islamic world who Zawahri says cannot help.

"And if you don't refrain from the foolish American policy of backing Israel, occupying the lands of Islam and stealing the treasures of the Muslims, then await the same fate," he said.

To those agaist this war, I hope you are happy. They can't beat us on the battlefield. However, they know to defeat the U.S. is to divide the homefront, isolate the U.S., and turn the media into their propaganda mill. Seems they are making headway on that......If I was president, this war would be over with in 90 days, and it would be VERY ugly for the enemy. Most would not survive. Seems folks have forgotten we got attacked 5 years ago. You harbor, support, or turn your back or show a deaf ear, a pale horse will gallop toward you.

BTW, some previous poster stated to the effect of "..sounds like you have been in the military.."

I am still in...and fixing to most likely go back to Iraq for trip #2.
