Well.. well.. well!! The Honorable Gov. Bob Riley is showing his true colors!!! This "Ethics Reform" he speaks of so humbly is merely an attack on the Alabama Education Association because they did not support Mr. Bradley Burne!! I ask you...Would ANYONE in their right mind vote for someone who spoke openly of their contempt for school bus drivers, lunchroom workers, classroom aides, custodians, ball coaches, teachers and principals? Many of those people I have mentioned have incomes that are FAR below the poverty level!! The truth is: We roll out every day and take care of your children and still cannot afford to feed our families! We are your neighbors and friends! We care for your children each and every day! Please know this is nothing more than MORE government control of all our lives! It will NOT stop here! This is ONLY the beginning!!!

Not allowing deductions from their paychecks is hardly the equivalent of "Sie paperin, bitte!"

If they can't feed their children, then either change jobs or, call child services to give up parental rights.

Good grief. The people you listed are not doing volunteer or public service work. They are getting paid for a job and recieving excellent benefits. Throw in all the time off from work and I would say they have it pretty good.
If the people footing the bill for the poor job performance by SOME in the teaching profession, had a say so, then we might see some teachers who could not feed their family due to unemployment.
(Please note I said SOME not all)
Since this was never clearly explained, I looked further. I am guessing that Wondering is upset about the piece of legislation that prevents the AEA from automatically deducting dues from employee paychecks. As the AEA is a lobbying organization, I have no problem with any law that prevents them from having any automatic access to taxpayer money. If people still wish to fund the AEA, they should be free to do so.

What I found funny was this part of the original post:

I don't have any detailed info on the payroll of these people, but I'm 99.9% certain they aren't below the poverty level. If they are, all the more reason to support the legislation. If I was earning below the poverty level, I certainly wouldn't want additional items deducted from my paycheck. Not only that, but I sure wouldn't want union dues sent to a union that was so ineffective that they couldn't bargain my pay above the poverty level.

This is not more government control either. I know of no prohibition on funding these groups.

s the money used by the AEA PACs a distinct amount, or is it just part of a dues deduction?

I'm not sure, but how does that matter?

There are some positions that dont require a degree, like teaching aides, that receive barely above minimum wage, which for a family of 3+ would be far below poverty level.

A single person supporting a family of 3 would be below the poverty level earning minimum wage at a full time job, but only by a few thousand dollars. And as I said earlier, if your union can only accomplish getting you the federally mandated minimum wage, it's not a union worth funding.
