Do tell. I've heard this for years and it is no less tired an worn out now. The ROOT cause IS GROUP THINK, religion is just the justification for actions used by some. Further, "religion" can be definition imposed upon many, many things, thus offering it as an quick and easy target for blame. Such thinking is base and common.

Congratulations! You figured it out!!! Religious dogma gives those susceptible to group think the moral conviction to believe they are right and moral and just, without any rational reasoning. It works great on little kids in Sunday school.
